Sudden DC?

Hello all, sorry for whenever I post, it is all about trouble. But, please help, thank you very much!

So, I'm currently a boardband user (that's what they call it in my country). It 'gets' internet from my house phone-line so I have a DSL spliter/filter where it splits 1 line to my phone and the another to my modem for internet.

But recently, whenever a phone-call came, I will start hearing a loud buzzing noise when I picked up the phone and answer so, I ususally put down the phone and call the person back. When I put my phone down, my internet is down! Which is weird because it never happened for the past 3 years or so.

I have tried, changing 3 different DSL spliter/filter. But that didn't help. Any suggestions from you guys please?

Have you tried A different phone? different wires between the splitter and phone/modem?

I don't have a spare phone to try on right now unless I go and buy a new one, sorry. I tried switching sides with the wires and changed into a new one but result is the same.

Do you have more than 1 phone socket, i.e. do you have a master socket with extensions running off it? If so, what happens if you unplug the extensions and just use the master socket? Remember that you will still need the filter. On the subject of filters, have you checked the other filters on any other extensions?

So sorry for the late replies. Been busy with school and all. I have only got 2 phone sockets at my house now. I'm using one. So, I'm not sure what is the main socket. Anyways, I have tried various filter but no luck. Also, tried switch with my another socket and it's okay. But I can't use the another socket due to some issues with my house layout and it is not easy for me to switch over.

Recently, the problem has worsen. Whenever I call out, I get an instant DC and when I get calls, I would also hear buzzing noise and when I put down the phone, I'll be DC also. It will tell me that something is wrong with my connection. Please setup my modem.

I tried calling the ISP but they say that I'm good when they are doing some requesting ping test or whatever and direct me to the modem supplier. But they did not help much, only send an technical email to me and ask me to study it.

Is it really my socket, filter or modem?

Have you tried complaining to the phone company? I was having all sorts of irregular troubles - turned out my modem was dying.

I called the modem supplier. All they did was jog down my problem and after s few hours, they send me an email and link me to a page that teach me how to connect to my modem which is completely helpless. I tried emailing them back and is waiting for a reply now.

Connecting to the internet wasn't my problem - upon connect I would have sudden drop-offs, slow connections and some of the lights wouldn't be on, or would be intermitent.

The modem was losing the power to distinguish signal from noise (I can't remember the technical jargon for it, but this was only apparent when an engineer came to my home and did some line tests.

The modem was replaced. Problem solved.

you say the modem supplier - is this the same as the ISP / telephone company?

Nope, the modem supplier is different from others. I'm still hoping that they will assist me. Will it help if I change into an older modem? I meant the modem which I used when I was using my previous Internet plan. I heard that I will need to provide them with MAC IP they say?

MAC IP - Do you mean the MAC address? If so you can find this by: Start -> run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all

Your ip4v MAC (sometimes called Physical address) will be 6 sets of double digits/letters. For example: 00:18:C2:65:0A:43

Trying the old modem couldn't hurt...
