Sudden hardware incompatibility on clean re-install?

Did you have Windows 7 on the first partition? It has issues if it isn't on the first partition.

Basically in order to troubleshoot your PC you need to eliminate as many possibilities as you can.

First of all I would remove all non essential device from the computer while you are doing your testing. Like any USB devices (keybaord and mice excluded), sound cards, second video cards, and only run one stick of RAM for the time being while you are testing.

In order to eliminate the hard drive as your problem I would reinstall just Windows on a different hard drive and then see if your problem continues. If they do put your original HDD back in do a clean install of Windows then swap out the video card. If your problems continue Put your original video card back in and start swapping out your RAM one stick at a time. If you can try a different stick of RAM from your orignal ones and see if it is the wrong RAM.

If you have tried all of the things above then you may have a bad motherboard try updating the BIOS first and if that doesn't work call Asus Tech support.

Checked on when the error message comes up- After it says it needs to reboot to complete the installation, as soon as it starts back up again I get the error.

Windows was on the first partition.

I don't have any spare hard drives at the moment, unfortunately, but I'll try removing speakers and some RAM, though after my exam tomorrow. Thanks for the time.

Exams are over, so I finally had some free time- went out and bought a large enough USB key and used that instead; installed without a hitch. Dunno what happened to my original disc, but thanks for all the advice.
