Suddenly opening things is slower

Alright, so I have this bad problem on my laptop. I have had it for about a year now, and nothing bad has happened to it, apart from one virus about half a year ago, which was supposedly wiped off my system.

As of now, whenever I open something up, it loads REAL slow. For example, when I open up my documents folder from my hot tab, it loads really slow. It actually fades into the screen, as if there is an effect on all of it. But not just that, my google chrome that I use suddenly looks different, and everything is slower. It may just be the internet, but I don't know.

I could not tell if it was slow for any other applications though, just this one. Everything is much slower, say when I open my browser everything is as if it is not slow motion, and lagging. The letters I type in seem to be okay, if a little laggy at first.

I don't know if this is a virus, or a setting in my computers configuration I may have accidently flicked. Right now, I am running my anti-virus (McAfee) but I suspect it will not come up with much, and it will take a long time to process. (My virus protection seems to be running slow too... uh-oh?)

I desperately require assitence, as I have no idea what this is and I hope it is not a virus! Please help. D:

EDIT: Everything got even slower as I edited this post... oh damn I am worried...

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,

The first thing you should do is uninstall McCrapee - its almost as uselss as an ashtray on a motorbike. Replace it with the free Microsoft Security Essesntials - its far better, and in the top 3 most installed AV's in recent times.

Once its installed, run a FULL system scan and then report back what it finds.

Regards,
Golden

Well, I got 2 years worth of McAfee protection when I got the laptop, so I think I'll hold onto it until it expires ;D

Until then, I will get the the one you suggested and run that scan - hopefully I will pick anything up :D

Hi,

We see many instances here of MaCrapee causing system lock-ups, slowing down etc. Its your call, but whatever you do, do not have both MucKufee and MSE installed at the same time.

Let us know what you find.

Golden

MSE already recommended. Exactly why should he run CCleaner - can you recommend which settings he should use?

CCleaner is a great software that removes files you don't use anymore. I prefer it because it can takes even gbs of space away of junk and cookies etc you don't need. It has saved me more than 10 GBS and it has made my computer faster by a lot. Settings he should use? I'd leave it by default and "Run Cleaner" and then "analyze" after finished.
