Suggestions for Proper Maintenance

Hosed a couple XP installs poking about in the registry (CCleaner). I tend not to fix things that aren't broken nowadays!

After 1,000's of uses I have only had trouble once after cleaning the Registry with CCleaner. Fortunately CCleaner like every other Registry Cleaner I have ever used has an excellent Registry backup and I used it to restore the Registry to its original state and all was fine.

I would really appreciate it if you(registry cleaners users) could provide more detailed info about how much speed/performance/etc you have gained by using this so controversial software. Thanking you in advance! :geek:

Hi Tatletz,

I've used CCleaner for many years, first with the desktop running XP Pro and now with laptop running
Win 7 Pro. Have never tried to measure improvement in speed/performance as that's not why I use CCleaner.
It is used to remove unnecessary bits and rubbish and it does this very successfully.
I have heard others talk about 'controversial' cleaning programs but assure you I and friends have never
had a problem with CCleaner.

When you clean yr car do you expect better performance or just enjoy a cleaner car?

It is unfair to link CCleaner with the Registry Cleaner sales scams which have no genius behind them.

CCleaner is perhaps the most highly regarded app in all of the tech world, a sheer genius app that we watched being perfected over ten years.

In hundreds of installs representing thousands of uses, I've never had CCleaner Disk or Registry cleaner cause an issue in over a dozen years. And reports here of it causing problems are always traced to something else (e.g. System Mechanic in the startup list).

@ nithing & sygnus21=>Thank you guys, much appreciate it!

Best wishes for the New Year! :)

Ha-ha, this is a real mission you know. One must go there in the morning to reserve a spot, and spend the whole day under the sun and patiently wait for the firework to start late in the evening. No doubt it's a magnificent view, but I think I'll pass this year

The only truly safe registry cleaner is one's self. But if you don't have the confidence to tackle it yourself, then be prepared for unwelcome ramifications from slightly annoying to possibly much worse.

The best thing is always to learn how things work yourself and then take control. Use an old pc to test things out if possible.

It's so much more rewarding when you know how things function and to be able to take action one's self. Mostly preventative too. ;)
