Suggestions for room temperature

Any suggestions on how to lower room temperatures without using an air-conditioning system?

btw I live in a tropical country with around 80 ~ 85 % humidity

Hello Edrik,

I suppose that you could open all the windows and use ceiling fans as needed.

A good dehumidifier may help it not be so sticky and stuffy when the house cannot be open and is closed up.

It depends on what models you use, but you can look at the energy ratings for the appliance to see how much power it uses, and for the average estimated cost of use per year sticker on it.

If it's close, I would go with the air-conditioner to cool, and it also removes some moisture as well. A dehumidifier will not cool since it only helps remove moisture in the air.

I live in South Louisiana so i know about that high humidity. Back in the old days before we had air conditioning we had a large fan in the attic or in a window to suck air out of the house. Then open a window in each room for fresh air to come in. Just like cooling your pc case. Always had large trees to shade the house especially the west side for that hot afternoon sun. Shade makes a big difference.

The dehumidifiers I use are rated at 400 Watts. An AC is more like 2KW or more.

If you lived in a dryer climate, I would recommend a swamp cooler. Growing up in Oklahoma, we had one which worked reasonably well, but it was far better when I lived in Tuscon, because of the low humidity. I guess this doesn't help much where you live, but I just had to toss it in.

I found some airconditioning systems that are said to have "inverters" they cost more but they say they can save up to 60% less on power consumption... I want to make sure if this has been proven.. does anyone here have air conditioners that have inverters? Does it really save that much electricity?

I have no idea about their power consumption, but an inverter is used to convert DC to AC, which means that batteries are required, which also means that rectifier is needed to convert AC to DC for charging the batteries. While this might be good for a portable airconditioner, like in a motor home, the cost of maintaining the system would offset any saving in power costs.

I live in the Philippines... humidity here is around 80% average.. it gets higher during the summer
