Hi SevenForums!

I'm an avid fan here and many utilities I've used are from here!

Seriously speaking, you guys are a one stop centre for any computer needs!

Anyways, let me come back to the point of my thread.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I'm currently trying to develop a customized Windows 7 Enterprise installation with SP1 and some applications installed.

I've used some cleanup utilities to clean temp files and stuffs from the installation before sysprep-ing it with generalize option.

The size of the install.wim that is created is just a lil' larger than needed to fit a DVD-R.

I'm not into using DVD-R DLs as of now.

Currently, the size is about 4.5GB and I'm trying to fit it into a DVD-R that is 4.38GB.

Any suggestions or stuffs that you guys can advice me on?

Is there any way I can compress it any further?

BTW, I'm going to be needing ONLY Windows 7 ENT 32BIT. (if this information helps!)

Are you using imagex /compress maximum?

If you are then other than removing components I don't know of any other way. I think RT Seven Lite will remove the components as well as their files.

Hi and thanks for the response.

Basically what I did to prepare the image was:
1. CCleaner (Enhanced Version)
2. Temp files cleaner (Hiren)
3. System Ninja
4. ATF Cleaner

After all this, i proceeded to created the image with generalize ticked.

On creating the install.wim, i used maximum compression.

If I were to remove components what are the recommended components that can be removed?

(Image is for a school where everyone owns a laptop configured with this Windows 7 ENT)

Regards!

Personally I wouldn't recommend removing any components, but if I had to I would remove components that I would not use. How much space can you save without removing useful features is another question I could not answer.

Really I would just use a DL DVD-R or use a 8GB or bigger USB stick.

Noted with thanks.

I guess my only feasible solution would be to utilize a DVD DL.

Thanks! :)

Sorry I couldn't be of better help but I did think of one more cleanup option. It's possible that the cleanup progams you have already run have already cleaned everything but you could try the built-in Windows disk cleaner but run it from the start menu as

cleanmgr /sageset:1 - sets what to clean
cleanmgr /sagerun:1 - runs it with the options you set

Running it this way gives a few more options although on a clean install those extra option probably won't help much but it's worth a try.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yep I did that too!

But here's my final iso:
Win7 ENT x64x86 - Slipstreamed SP1
7.04GB

Time to get some DVD-DLs are try them out! Worked perfectly on VM.
