Super anti spyware or MalwareBytes?

I have read your reply from the other thread. You don't need real-time protection from SAS or MBAM because MSE provides real-time protection against viruses and other malware while running in the background. Scan your PC occasionally with SAS or MBAM, run them like normal programs.

but im not sure if I should use MSE only... that's why I use SAS real time also.

So I just wanna ask if you had to choose between them what would you choose?

Hi, BDani.

Although the general recommendation is only one real-time program monitoring your computer to prevent conflicts, there are many people who do prefer a second monitor. If you have a licensed version of either SAS or MBAM, see if you have any ill-effects with the real-time protection activated. However, I would strongly advise you not to have both real-time in addition to MSE.

Another option, my favorite, is WinPatrol. (You can read about a few of the features at WinPatrol Features) WinPatrol is free for personal use and has a licensed version available as well.

I use both MBAM and SAS along with MSE.
MSE on all the time and do a weekly scan.
The other two I do an update and then do a monthly scan just in case a bug slips by MSE. IMHO

Use Emsisoft Anti malware. It runs alongwith your existing real time AV and its detection rates are higher than MBAM and SAS.

Hi all
There really ISN'T any need these days - especially for Home computers to run ANYTHING other than MSE -- and it's free.

A lot of people will try and "push" selected software -- but often there's a hidden agenda involved -- for example if MSE is 100% sufficient to do the job and can be installed simply by anyone who needs all the expensive "Security specialists".

The whole area of computer security needs to be re thought out again FROM the start now Microsoft is actively protecting its OS (and about time too).

I'd safely say that MSE is just as good or effective as 99.999% of other stuff out there these days. Infection is usually more likely to come from bad user practices than lack of AV software -- for example dubious downloads, opening email attachments without knowing the source, downloading multi media from sites like facebook and logging on to "fake" or rogue clone websites etc etc.

And btw Jimbo. In all the test results I've read (and that's a lot) MSE is mid-range at best. It is NOT "100% sufficient to do the job..." nor is it "as good or effective as 99.99% of other stuff" If you have reports/test results to support these claims, please provide a link.

I agree with what you say.

Running paid versions here of an AV plus SuperAntiSpyware Pro with real time protection enabled.

A lot of those tests are essentially meaningless -- basically the "proof of the pudding is in the eating".

MSE is improving almost daily -- Magazine reports are often at least 30 and usually MORE days old so not up to date statistics either.

It really depends on how you use the Internet / email / social websites.

Some people will throughout their "whole computer lives" never experience a computer infection of any kind, others will attract infections like wasps around a jam jar whatever AV software is installed.

It really doesn't matter if AV product X can detect some really obscure Virus that AV product Y might miss if the user isn't likely to be logged on to the type of application or site that has this obscure virus.

In any case once the "obscure" virus is publicised it will become "less obscure" and definition updates will follow.

The worst that can happen is that you could (although if the virus was really obscure - it would be very unlikely that you would get infected in practice) get an infection for probably a maximum 24 hours at the most - assuming you scan at least every 24 hours and update daily -- so just restore back two days and you computer is clean again.

I would NEVER trust a computer that had been "cleansed" no matter HOW good the AV software is reputed to be -- a clean image restore IMO is the only sensible solution no matter what product you are using.

Note also that I'm referring here to HOME computers.
Protecting Corporate LANS or other "Multi User" computers is another subject entirely.

Sorry for butting in ... don't mean to step on any toes. I think you'll find a lot of the forum members rely on either the built-in 7 imaging tool or the free Macrium Reflect.

Macrium apparently offers a bit more versatility but 7 will do an adequate job of imaging your entire system as long as you don't try to use DVDs (7 has some issues with brand of disks, whether you use +R, -R, +RW, -RW, and even what brand burner you want to use.) Personally I recommend an external USB hard drive rather than trying to use many DVDs.

My DVD sais "DVD+R" is that ok?
Ohh and How much space do I need to my USB Flash?

Speaking from my own personal experience Id vote for SuperAntiSpyware. I know a lot of people like MBM but for me its never found anything even though SAS has.
