What sort of Firewall and Antivirus do the real computer experts use?

My guess is that they would use a self built computer.
A self built Firewall.
A self built Antivirus system.

How can I get somewhere close to having such a system?
I tire of banal standard security systems.

I use 3rd party "super firewalls" myself, but you have to remember sooner or later conflicts with other apps will happen. So many people will stick with windows firewall for conflict free simplicity and ease of use.
I believe if you were to run in a SUA with Sandboxie free, Malwarebytes free, and whatever A/V you choose you should be fine.

Neither do I!! 'Definitions' need to be continually updated and added to their data bases in order to stop or catch a bad URL and malware.

Hello Jacee.
I have read some of your stuff.
It appears to me that you have knowledge of antivirus/ things like that.
I am not satisfied with standard antivirus protection/firewall stuff.
Clearly, you think outside of the square, as one must, in order to combat antivirus and attack.
My question is:
what sort of Firewall and Antivirus do cyber criminals use?
Clearly, because of their activities , they would have to have superior firewall and antivirus.
I just can't believe that they are using AVG and Windows Firewall.

Believe me, I have no intention to engage in such activities as they,
however, I do wonder how they can get away with it.
Surely, they must have better protection.
So, the bottom line is...what do the crooks use for firewall and antivirus?

Hi inouno,

Sounds like you are very security conscious and want to take it to the "next level"...that's great.

Have you considered and looked into any training/schooling/courses for Computer Security?

If you're not aware of it, a "well known" Security Conference is Black Hat.
Black Hat ® Technical Security Conference // Home

You may want check there, and see if you can get more info and help for what you want.

Hope this helps, David

In addition to what Jacee has said, most AV vendors do this by having a group of computers that are deliberately left open in order to catch these viruses and other malware. These are the honeypots, and it is a round the clock job (24/7/) analysing the data that they catch, creating the definitions that are ultimately downloaded to your computer when its AV does an update. Because of this, it is highly unlikely that a home user (like you) will have the necessary resources and the expertise needed.

I know of more than one expert (a subjective term at best) that use the stock Windows firewall and no antivirus product at all. You would just need to do/know everything that they know/do in order to stay uninfected. So, this might not be your best group to emulate.

I see nothing wrong with the stock Windows firewall. Let me know what flaws you see in it.

I saw a dateline once dunno if true but says that hackers and stuff use older computers (seeing how a lot of what they do isn't high tech programs but simple dos comands) that they use older computers with no wifi (no internet) or a regular modem

then its simple to keep computer safe I mean what makes it unsafe is wifi if u ask me how easy is to get infected..

Basic computer with no emial, no downloads and such

HOWEVER what does the goverment use? or google? now that I wonder :P maybe a super computer or maybe this is my thought.. they do it them selves they moninter it all by hand then disconect when there done

that makes most sense to me

I just use mse and windows firewall and have malwarebytes, super anti spyware and spy-bot search and destroy as side tools. Also I have a usb boot scanner from kaspreky which i've used before to remove virus that I couldn't get rid of and sometimes will log into linux from a live cd and remove the files and the exe the virus was using which has helped me before. Also i've never heard of anyone self coding their own anti virus which i would see impossible to keep update due to thousands of new viruses being created everyday which is why it is better to just go with a anti virus company who dedicates there time to updating the program which would be impossible to do with one person alone. I suggest if you have paranoia of getting a virus(not trying to be rude so don't take it the wrong way) then just get your self a paid anti virus like nod32 which I have heard good reviews of and I have used there free boot scanner with my usb drive which does incredibly well at removing. For free just go for mse, avast or avira those are my top best free suggestion for a free anti virus in my honest opinion.

..thank you David.

Yeah, that's the sort of stuff I am looking for .

I have an aversion to the exploitation of decent folk who are merely using a medium of communication to further advance their goals and aspirations.

Ultimately, I would like to be part of a program that would turn internet into a positive benefit for people, and not an abuse, as has been done with TV.
