SuperAntiSpyware Question

Just installed the free edition of SuperAntiSpyware. When adding new software I always check to see if anything has been added to my startup routine and I notice that the installation added a startup item. Since the free version does not include realtime monitoring, I'm wondering about the purpose of this startup item and whether it can be disabled without affecting my ability to regularly scan for spyware.

Thanks.

Welcome,
I dont use or know too much about SuperAction, although I know Use and love Microsoft Security Essentials in Conjuction with the free Malwarebytes for excellent performance and protection; but I digress.
To monitor your start up items, WinPatrol is excellent. The free edition will even warn you if something is added without your knowledge.

I would go to services and disable and then just test. If you can scan, whenever you please, you are all set.

Loading on startup gives you instant access to the scanning and right-click scanning. So basically, it gives you direct access to the free version in fewer steps. You can just uncheck the entry in MSCONFIG.

Even though the free version doesn't have real time monitoring, it wants to place an icon in your system tray so if and when you decide to run a manual scan you can just right-click that icon to open the utility. The logic being it's faster than clicking start > all programs > superantispyware > superantispyware. Feel free to disable it from startup. If you want a faster way to access it, pin it to your start menu.
