SURT reports missing packages for KB3035583 but I don't have files

Hi all. I'm working on cleaning up my system. SURT is reporting missing packages for KB3035583 (the Windows 10 nag update). I had this installed once long ago but then uninstalled it. Now I looked on Microsoft but couldn't find replacement packages so I could clean up Windows Update (and then hopefully uninstall them cleanly). Can someone point me at copies of the needed package files or give instructions for a manual cleanup?

Hi MinnGuy, welcome to the Forum.

What program are you using to clean up your system. Have you tried just running Windows Disc Cleanup. It should be listed in Control Panel.

OK, I looked at Disk Cleanup. Is there a specific category that might resolve the SURT missing package issue? I'm reluctant to delete the install/log/debug files because I have some other issues and I don't want to delete information that may be needed for resolving them. But posting rules said to start with SURT so I'm trying to clean that up first.

How did I stop the downloader? My memory is a bit fuzzy since its been a while. According to my install history I installed KB3035583 on 4/6/2015 along with several other updates. I'm pretty sure that I then figured out it was the Win10 nagger and uninstalled it shortly afterwards. Then I stopped Windows Update. I did some additional updates later in 2015, doing it manually I'm pretty sure. But then at some point Windows Update seemed to be broken and it slid to my "roundtoit" list so no updates got done for quite a while. I finally went back in this month and by doing just a few updates at a time was able to get caught up. (not smart, I know, but I was basically living at work back at the time...)

Torchwood, the major problem that I'm having is that the system is more or less hanging or bogging with memory leaks or something. This generally happens around the time that it drops off to sleep from inactivity so I'm not there to see it happen. I was thinking it might be the Windows Update looping thing which is why I posted here. (But there are a couple of other possibilities too).

I have another problem in that I can't access the Windows features list to turn them on and off but I'm pretty sure that's related to this messed up package issue.

Callendar, unfortunately the update you listed, KB3184143, was one of the updates I ran before I posted. But these 3035583 bits still remain so it did not do the job. :(

All I really need to do is persuade the system that the 3035583 packages listed in CheckSUR.log no longer exist. I will check out Ultimate Outsider. Hopefully it will do the job!

Okay that update was released specifically to clean Win 10 nagware and worked on all machines that I've used it on.

RE: Disabling windows updates because of problems - instead of fixing them. I reckon you might have missed these optional updates.

Servicing Stack Update July 2016

July 2016 Rollup

Installation instructions are here:

Windows Update - Reset

Any problems download standalone installers from MS Update Catalog:

Microsoft Update Catalog

Search for kb3177467 and kb3172605 and install them (if not already installed) using the instructions in the link above.

Note: After installation and reboots required it will take a while for your machine to be re-scanned for installed and missing updates. Check task manager and wait for svchost (netsvcs) and trustedinstaller.exe proccesses to finish before running an update check manually.

Might also be worth running advanced disk cleanup to include windows update cleanup:

Disk Cleanup : Extended

Unfortunately i was kinda expecting that.
Replacement/removal KB's only tend to work if the original update installed correctly:mad:.

It is more than likely its causing your sleep problem as a quick check
set Windows Updates to never.

See what GWX does, (select all options 1-8)
note option 8 is a rolling what im doing report, keep an eye on it.

Roy

If GWX fails might have to go for a repair install, got any recovery discs/images??

Thanks. I will give this a try tomorrow. On the disk cleanup, what items do I want to check?

Include items in red box:

Disk Cleanup Settings.jpg

Avoid selecting:

Windows ESD installation files. These files are required to Reset or Refresh your PC.
Thumbnails. Only select if you do not work with lots of images.
Service Pack Backup Files.
Downloaded Program Files.

Also you get to choose cleanup settings if you use this command from the Start> Run dialog box

C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe sageset:1

(Replace 1 with any number)

Then try running disk cleanup using:

C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe sagerun:1

Replace 1 with the same number used for sageset.

If those don't work try:

RUNAS C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe sageset:1

RUNAS C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe sagerun:1

EDIT: Reboot is needed to complete disk cleanup

Also suggest running this script:

Script Reset Windows Update Agent

Download and save to desktop. File must be launched with Admin rights so right click and choose "Run as administrator"

When the script runs choose Option 2. Wait for it to complete then choose the option to Reboot your PC.

After the reboot wait reapply windows update settings via Control Panel.

Change settings.jpg

If things are still not working after the disk cleanup and installing those two important optional updates continue with Roy's instructions.

Hi all. I just wanted to check in. I'm grateful for your help. Sorry for the lack of updates. Life intervened and I got bogged down in other things for a bit is all.
