svchost.exe causes slow boot times during "Welcome" screen

Good afternoon all,

I'm attempting to troubleshoot an issue with my work PC. I feel as though it's taking an extremely long period of time to load Windows passed the Welcome screen, and this is a new PC. I don't have many items starting up with the PC at all. I've been troubleshoot the heck out of this issue but haven't been able to resolve it.

I've been running ProcMon to determine what's causing the PC to run so slowly. Unfortunately it seems to be narrowed down to svchost.exe, and the services this particular instance is trying to run are the following:

AeLookupSvc, BITS, Browser, CertPropSvc, IKEEXT, LanmanServer, ProfSvc, Schedule, SENS, SessionEnv, ShellHWDetection, Themes, Winmgmt, and wuauserv.

Is there a way to determine which of the services specifically is causing the slow load times? How can I continue to troubleshoot this further to get it resolved? Feel free to ask away, and I'll respond as quickly as I can.

I would start with "msconfig" for troubleshooting;

Thanks George for the response.

There isn't much in msconfig that I would disable. As stated it already seems that I've narrowed down the culprit to be svchost, with the services mentioned above. Is there a way to determine what the best way to narrow down each service is, other than individually disabling and re-enabling them? There a way to search to see how long each service takes to load, or perhaps any notorious culprits that I've listed in the thread?

Thanks for the suggestion WHS.

Here's everything that I've discovered:

1) Slow boot time still happens if all applications are disabled from msconfig.
2) Slow boot time still happens if most services are disabled. Procmon reports something different when I do that, and it is a touch faster but not a huge amount.
3) Soluto reported that my boot time was 1:54, and the system boot was 65.9. It states that nothing can be done about that, and I can only shave like 7 seconds if I disable every application.
4) Ran sfc /scannow, while some errors were corrected this has not improved the boot time passed the welcome screen.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

This is just my opinion, so...

Boot time is highly overrated as an issue. There are multiple reasons for a slow booting computer and many will probably never be discovered. I have never been overly concerned about it, my concern is how well the system performs after booting. Opening programs, saving files, running spreadsheets and the like are where I am looking for performance.

If you want to continue to pursue the cause it may help to try MS Boot Trace;

I think Sir George is right. The nain cause for a slow boot is a slow disk. Replace your HDD with a SSD and I am sure your boot time will be in the 20 second range.
