switch between headphones and speakers?

whenever i plug in my headphones to the front jack on my computer it sends the sound to my headphones and turns it off of the speakers, which are plugged into the back... this is fine and expected... but i would like to be able to leave my headphones plugged in and still tell it to come out of the speakers when i want... is this possible?

If you're using Realtek for your audio, there should be an option to control how the front audio ports respond when there is a device plugged in. (e.g. Whether the speakers are disabled or not) If something else, you'll have to poke around in the options.

You can also try start > control panel > hardware and sound > manage audio devices and adjust the default device by right clicking and selecting 'set as default device' on your speakers / headphones. I can't verify that works as I haven't played around with that while having both speakers and headphones plugged in.

Yeah I dont think that works, it only lists one device... And it's speakers - seems like either or is the only option

i dont think i have realtek audio like that... maybe i didnt install it? all i have is the windows7 volume control, audio device manager... ill post photos of what i have when i get home from work
