I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64, afetr a recent update I have lost my 'switch user' option on the start button completely, I have two other users on the computer, I have deleted these accounts and then set them up again, still no joy.

I have just created a 'switch user' shortcut for my desktop thinking that would solve the problem, when I use it the computer goes to the users log on screen, I can see my account still logged in, but when I select one of the other accounts I get the following error:

'The number of connections to this computer is limited and all are in use'

There is only the administrators account open..

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that.

Suggestions :

1. If you are using auto windows update, please change it to Manual.

2. quote " afetr a recent update I have lost my 'switch user' option ...."
If you remember which date was that, do a system restore and pick a date BEFORE that update date as your restore point.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Also, mark down the KB number of that update for later reference.

3. After system restore, do you get your Switch User option back on ?

If Switch User is back on Start menu......
You will soon get a notification of available updates. If that same update appears on the list, do not install it.
Post that update and ask what to do with it.

Hi there, thanks I will follow your suggestion, may take a little while though, I've just installed Office 10 and my last update contained over 30 updates!

Hi,

I think your problem could be come from SP1. Can you check if SP1 is installed ?

There is a lot of problem with SP1 and windows 7 X64 on some computers.

You can also check if the Remote Desktop option tab is still there

look at this post:

http://www.sevenforums.com/network-...config-missing-windows-7-pro.html#post1454626

also, I think that you will not be able to access the HomeGroup

Check that post:

HomeGroup stops working Streaming Tab in MC disappears Remote connections refused after SP1

You can uninstall SP1 by using the control panel
  1. click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
  2. Click View installed updates.
  3. Click Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB 976932), and then click Uninstall.
Thank for your feedback.

Thanks

Thanks for your help guys, after unistalling all of my updates one by one it turns out the culprit is SP1, my 'switch user' function reappeared after I uninstalled it but then I lost it again when I resinstalled SP1.

Which is strange because I installed the exact same win 7 ultimate on my laptop and have no problems at all...

So now I have to decided between SP1 or my 'swirch user' function, as nothing seems to restore it with SP1 installed:(
