Hello all. Just found an answer here to a problem I had and linked the solution to some other similar posts.

I have a glitch that I am hoping someone can help me with.

I auto hide my taskbar
I have a window that I size from the top of my window to the bottom.
I use "switch user"
When I return to my user the window size has reduced in height from the bottom of the screen the width of an un hid taskbar.

the attached pic is showing the monitor from top to bottom. As one can see the window is not full height but shortened the size of the taskbar.

Sorry if this is an exsisting thread.

I don't know that it would help, but try setting it to run in a maximized window in the program's properties. That would work when initially opening it, but I'm not so sure about in the situation that you describe.

This is a known bug (I mean feature of Vista/Windows 7). In the days of Windows XP almost no software knew the "start bar" was there so the applications would cover it. It frustrated many people that use Auto Hide. Starting with Windows Vista the OS now remembers that the "start bar” location and forces the applications to stay away. One small problem Microsoft forgot to update the OS when the "Auto Hide" is in use. Most likely programming the code to remember the location was easier then programming code to monitor the "start bars" location and status. If the "start bar" is to spring open then your application/window would have to move up, when the "start bar" hides then your application/window would need to move down. So it is just easier to remember where the "start bar" is and not care if it is hidden or not, and force the application/windows to not use the space the “start bar” is or can be using.

Yes the I tried an account with auto hide and one without.

I think as windowstar indicates it is a code issue. It looks like when one swites back to ones user it loads the taskbar, then reloads the window graphics THEN rehides the taskbar. This leaves the gap... another glitch that makes useraccoun fast switching usless/annoying. Much like the fact that aliging icons to a grid gets all screwed up when fast swtiching.

On the desktop icon thing, I just gave up and decided not to have any. All that hassle is gone. I use RocketDock and have folders with subcategories of apps in RocketDock.

The screen shot shows the folders.
Now all I have to worry about is apps covering RocketDock. So I made
my own Toggle program to switch between 2 non-maximized window
sizes and positions.

The folder containing all the subfolders I stuck in Documents so not even that is on the Desktop. About the only time I have an icon on the desktop is during an install. Then I drag it into one of the folders.

RocketDock is good, but I prefer Stardock's ObjectDock, primarily because I have had less problems with it using the program's proper icons. RocketDock has also given some problems on shutting down properly. I still use both, but I have them set to hide offscreen, until bring the mouse nears their edge. This keeps them from being covered, because they will appear on top of what ever is on the desktop.
