Hi people,

I am new to this threading thing so if this is in the wrong area, please forgive me.

I am currently 18 months into a 5 year education as a "datateknikker" here in Denmark, it is a combination of network tech/admin and sysadmin/tech all rolled into one. My question is as follows:

I have been given the job of uninstalling our current A/V and installing Symantec inistead, I need to find out if there are any compatibility issues between the lateset Symantec and Win7 Ent 32bit. We are running server2003, 2008 and exchange2007, 32bit.

I have looked at a few forums and symantecs' own site but can not seem to find any info AFTER jan 2010. I would appreciate if some of you could assist in pointing my snout in the right direction?

I am writting this in SevenForums because I have been using it for info since I got Win7_Ent_32 on my laptop at work and I have discovered that this site is very credible with good info and hhelpfull and serious people.<------(sufficient flattery?)

Respectfully,
Wolfie

No issues here on Ultimate x64.

I have been running Norton 360 versions 3, and now 4.

I have not heard anything good about Symantec products I would recommend uninstalling it and installing MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Please don't take this offensively....

I heard from a considerable amount of people that Vista was absolutely horrific...but I had zero problems with it....

Do you see what I'm trying to say?

IMHO, Symantec has improved a lot. I have personally tried the NIS and N360 in it. BTW, you have to tell us, which version you are gonna install.

If I am not wrong, you must be installing the Symantec End Point Protection. if it is so, I havent tried installing the latest version, but it is used in my Server running Server 2003.

Which version of Symantec Endpoint do you plan to deploy? SEP 11.0 had an issue with the Confidence Online driver. Dont know whether it has been addressed. Heres a link to the Symantec forum.

Problems after installing SEP 11.0.4 on Windows 7 RTM | Symantec Connect

I believe the latest version is SEP 11.05. Some folks have reported that one needs to to run the LUSETUP.exe manually and reboot before one can install from the install package.

Also suggest you go through the appropriate Symantec forum, may throw more light on the subject.

I don't mind you saying your opinion that dose not worry me, I used to work in a IT repair shop and ever time we had a computer with Symantec products we always had problems.

I have worked for Symantec and I can assure you they have improved a lot with the 2009 and 2010 versions.

Only problem that occurs with the software is due to the LiveUpdates. But this has been rectified by the pulse updates in 2009 and 2010. This has no issues till now and it works in the background silently.

One more thing to remind is, Symantec/Norton doesnt sit pretty with other security softwares and people curse Symantec for it.

I have 3 computers with Microsoft Security Essentials, no problems at all. I also use Malwarebytes.

My experience has taught me not to install any Symantec/Norton products on any of my computers.

When it comes to software, of any type, I think each person has to research others' experiences, try the most commonly "liked" products, and use what works best for him/her.

For Windows 7 I use the same, MSSE along with Malwarebytes. All my client machines uses the same.
In my other partition which has XP, I have installed NIS 2010.
In my Server, SEP does the job.

It is the Symantec enterprise edition 3, it will be running in a 32bit server2003/2008 and exchng2007 environment, we have a combination of machines ranging from XPSP3, VistaBiz and Win7, all less than 2½ years old and fully updated.

I appreciate all your inputs, and the wheedling about how crap Symantec was, but appearantly it has become much improved. Not to mention we are outsourcing about 45% (3 servers) of our load in the next 5 months and they all have Symantec, so there is also the crossclient compatibility issue to be addressed.

On another note, I do believe that this forum is on e of the best I have dared to use, no excessive flaming for asking about basic info and some good input from the other members ;)

Now I have to find out about eventual issues between Win7 and SMB 2.0. I will check-in here again later today/this evening.

Ciao4now,
Wolfie

When you buy one of the paid AV programs, you pay for bloat in almost exact proportion to the money spent.

It is almost as though they need to convince their suckers that they are doing something, doing handstands and backflips every time you turn on the machine.

Contrast that with experts' choice MSE which installs in 30 seconds, updates, runs it's first scan, then you never see or hear from it again unless an iinvader tries to get in.

Even almost-invisible Avast has responded to trim its own sails to not require email registration any longer.
