Synaptics Touch Pad Travelmate 5520

I have recently noticed that the touch pad on my Acer TravelMate 5520 has stopped working. If I plug a USB mouse into the laptop it works fine but the tochpad doesn't seem to work. I have the driver installed but is not showing up in "Device manager" (Thats if it should do). Below is a picture of Add or Remove Programs and you can see the Synaptics Pointing Device is installed.

try fn-f7 i think that used to enable/disable touchpad

Try going into Device Manager and go to the Mouse section. Right-click on the device, and select Update Driver Software. Also, make sure the device is enabled.

I tried Smackheadz but no luck thanks anyway. And also Jonathon, the touchpad is not shown in the device manager under anything the only thing under mouse is my USB optical that is currently plugged in?? Screenshot below.

Go ahead and update that driver.

As for the other guy's suggestion, the keys need to be held for a few seconds.

It says the driver is up to-date. And yess it comes on my screen to show if the Touch-pad is enabled when pressing Fn-F7....

sometimes getting the drivers from pc manufacturers site can be better and vice versa many thanks for rep

Hi guys just to let you all know nothing was wrong with the drivers after all. I pryed up to front of my laptop and unscrewed the key board and removed it. Under the keyboard is the two tabs that connects the touchpad to the sreen and the main motherboard. I simply noticed that one corner was not in contact with the tab. I pushed is back down replaced everything and it is now working!
