Solved Sysprep Win 7 64 bit process failed (have 7 setupact.log entries)

Sysprep almost make it! But I received the following log entries. something occured when drmv 2clt.dll was executed. The file is there? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!

Also: There was another GOOGLE reference stating that it may be related to the
Windows Media Player Network Svcs.
I did Disable this service before running Sysprep. That said, I Disabeled it and clicked OK
Is it necessary to re-boot before running Sysprep?

I am pretty sure that the issue is not related to
rearm count; GeneralizationState or CleanupState

Any ideas as to the possible reason?

Well known issue.
Click Start > Run, type Services.msc to open the Services applet.
Scroll down to Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, double click it, change the Startup type to Disabled. Click OK.

Rerun sysprep.

As I mention in an Edit above, I did Disable this service before running Sysprep. That said, I Disabeled it and clicked OK then started Sysprep immediately. Is it necessary to re-boot before running Sysprep?

If it is not necessary to reboot, and Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is disabeled what else could be causing the error?

Wouldn't hurt to reboot, but make sure the service hasn't become active after the reboot. I don't remember if I rebooted when I had this problem, or if I had the exact same error code. Just know disabling the service worked.
Can't remember if some of the sysprep had worked and affected drivers either.
Keep at it. With error codes this should probably get resolved with some googling.

Also, I had images of the partition, so I wasn't concerned about sysprep screwing anything up.
Be careful.

Live and learn! Well, I did Disable (future!) I did not "STOP" the process. A big DA! for me.

Hi Victor, I had the same issue as Dennis. This thread helped me to get to the boot screen which I was not able to get to before.

But I am having another issue now.

When The system is getting ready and in the "Setup is starting services" stage, it shows a error dialog "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer".

I pressed the enter key to let the system restart itself and it does restart and goes to the same point again and shows the same error. It is in a endless loop now. Tried 5 times till now.

I have disabled the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" cause the sysprep was failing and had to disable this to complete the sysprep as suggested.

I am guessing that this might have something to do with the system not being able to starting the services but I am not sure.

Any advise on this ?

You might try this, which is included in Kari's instructions at the top.
"Kari, just a suggestion.

You might note in the tutorial that if on first booting Windows can't finish configuring, a reboot into safe mode, then a normal reboot will allow it to finish successfully.

This has happened to me both times I used a sysprepped system drive in a new computer. I found the answer to this problem buried deep in this thread the first time I ran into it, and the same thing happened yesterday on a different computer.

It's a seemingly very silly solution, but it works. I do believe many people have abandoned their sysprep work when they encounter the problem.

I think the solution deserves more visibility."

Hi Victor, thanks for your reply. I have solved this by uninstalling msdtc and then installing it again. sysprep worked after a reboot.
I had to do this few times before I was successful.

When I moved the HDD to new PC and booted, the OS started to getting ready. But when OS is installing/preparing the services, it threw up an error as I mentioned before. But this time I did not press the 'OK' button. I had to press "Shift + F10" to bring the command prompt and type "cd oobe" then "msoobe". After that I followed the instruction and then I clicked "OK" on the error dialog at the end. System restarted and booted successfully. Hopefully, it will help someone with similar problem.

But now every time OS boots, I see "Setup is updating registry settings" message just before the Login screen. Any thoughts on this ?

No, sorry. I've moved on to Win10. Personally, I'd look at other software solutions now instead of sysprep. Pretty sure there's a couple that will migrate your system to a different PC.
