SYSTEM and Trusted Installer permissions

I have recently attempted to take ownership of Windows C Drive through Properties/Security i.e. I temporarily removed it from Trusted Installer. The problem was complicated by previous changes in my Administrators User Account Name which was still listed under Windows C Drive Security. Windows 7 has been working quite well with Trusted Installer as owner and the wrong Administrators User Account Name but was hindering me in solving other problems.(see footnote*) Changing ownership from Trusted Installer to my (fairly) new Administrator Account name (removing the old name) did not help with the problem I was trying to solve, so I returned the ownership to Trusted Installer. I was not able to restore the old Administrator User Account - I tried in case removing it fouled up other permissions further down the tree. System Restore from a point created the day before did not actually restore these permission entries.

At present my Permissions List includes Authenticated Users with full permissions, SYSTEM with full permissions and my new User (Administrator) Account which only has Read and Executre, List Folder Contents and Read. Owner at present is Trusted Installer without any permissions.

My current problem is that I cannot grant Trusted Installer any permissions. I have read that SYSTEM folders should only have Read Only permissions and full control should be given to Trusted Installer.
Can you advise what I can do ? Windows 7 is working reasonably well apart from a problem I have with
Macrium Backups which led me to trying to restore the Event Log Service which has been missing for some time.

It is best to return to its default state just with the settings, observe and do the following in detail.

Permissions: Allow or deny users and groups

Sorry to say this but in my experience, the only sure way to Un-make this particular omelette is by a fresh install.

You could, given a suitable list of permissions required, use the "hidden" Full Administrator account which is the only account that sits fully above the Trusted Installer account to reset everything.

This would unfortunately take longer than a fresh install and setup of applications.

I would leave this thread for a few days as I have heard of exact procedures for attempting this rebuild if you feel this is the best way for you although I do not hold out much hope for this being successful.

In future if confronted with this issue you are must better served by using the Hidden Administrator to alter the permissions of only those files/folders that are needed to be changed. I have done this on occasion where very old programs insist in placing .INI files in the program files (of=r Program Files (x86) folders
