I tried one of the leaked builds from the RTM branch before the actual RTM was confirmed.

I shuddered the whole time I used it. I don't want to go into details and start another needless discussion, but all I'm going to say is that I'm sad to see the desktop becoming more and more underwhelming. The whole Modern thing is cool, but the desktop portion of Windows 8 makes me ******* cry.

The whole "modern" thing is actually not cool. Frankly, it sucks, and is utterly pointless.

I run Windows 7 on my Nexus 7 with overwhelming ease and efficiency.

"Tablet" OSs are essentially simplified versions of real OSs for people that can't cope with real functionality and options. For someone that knows what they're doing, they just come up lacking. Web browsers for example, yeah, they suck for tablets/"smart" phones.

The moronic thing (and I mean this without any reservations) is that tablets should be more like real OSs (such as Windows 7), not the other way around.

Microsoft must be smoking some good stuff, and buying their own self-delusionals for heading in this direction. I mean seriously, a desktop PCs?!

What I'm thinking that Microsoft must be thinking is that everyone is shallow and stupid. Well, news flash, that isn't actually the case, and yes, PCs need a real OS, not some tablet based want-to-be app. store selling thing that no one wants or needs to do real work on a computer.

It's a "take it or leave it" situation because that's just what Windows 8 is.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. It is utterly pointless for a real OS to emulate a dumbed down version of an OS for use on a real computer.

Sorry if I'm being harsh, but someone has to go there and represent people that actually use their computers for more than "social" media, web browsing (though actually that is lacking too), et cetera.

I guess the point was that the Modern interface brings the best of the Windows Phone platform - "information at your fingertips" thing. I don't have to go to Outlook.com/social networking WEBSITE to check my notifications - I have a live tile for that. Weather, calendar appointments etc. It's all just one glance away instead of browsing, loading programs etc.

If it was pointless Microsoft wouldn't have made it at all, the fact that its pointless to you is your own opinion.

There IS value in the Modern interface, it just wasn't well balanced with the Desktop environment.

Granted, it is my opinion, but I think Microsoft is thinking (and perhaps deservedly so) that they are falling behind in the current trend of handheld "smart" devises and their advancement and influence on how people use this kind of technology. However, I think it is actually in the completely wrong direction they are pointing their PC OS in. As I eluded to, hand held, mobile, "smart" OSs are simplified versions of real OSs to achieve the limited functionality of real OSs on an handheld device, streamlined and simplified for the average user.

This disfunctionality of Windows 8 is simply in the way of a real PC platform and interface.

If you want a popup notification when you get e-mails or whatever, then sure, set that up separately, but don't make the default OS look like a tablet for goodness sake.

Fortunately, I don't have to accept it since Windows 7 still does what I need it to.

That's just me though. I know some people actually like Windows 8, though I'm not really sure why they do, but to each their own. I guess boot times from a hybrid hibernated state are really important to some people.

That aside, if they like the interface, fair enough. I just can't wrap my mind around what useful purpose it serves.

Honestly, I wish I could show you guys how easy it is to use a "real" OS interface on a tablet. Maybe one of these days I'll make a YouTube video on how easy it is to use Windows 7 on my Nexus 7 tablet.
