Hi Sir,

My system clock is not being able to match up with the proper time when i boot up my machine... it is lagging behind by approximately something around 7 or 8 hours, whenever i boot my pc for the first time the clock is not displaying the proper time, but after rectifying it if i restart or shut down,& boot up again then it keeps displaying the correct time. But when i start my pc the next day my system clock again is lagging behind & i have to make manual adjustments to make it correct... i don't know why this is happening. I have Quickheal Guardian Antivirus which gets updated regularly.. so i scanned my system with it ,but i did not find any virus but it did find a Malware,& i removed it with the help of my antivirus but still the problem is not over yet.

One thing i would like to inform you is that one week earlier I installed Linux(Fedora 16 ,64 bit),dual boot with my Windows 7 Ultimate(64 bit), after that i am noticing this problem. Previosly my system's clock used to display dates & times of 2 or 3 months ahead from the current date, but after the malware scanning & removal now the date is being displayed correctly but it is lagging in time only.I don't know whether this has anything to do with it or not but still i preferred not to keep anything hidden from you..

Looking for your help.

Thanks in advance......

Very good point whs. That would be a $2.00 repair. Worth a try. I have had a new battery that wasn't any good.

Hopefully the OP has a desktop. In a laptop it is not that easy to get to the CMOS battery. I never understood why the OEMs do not provide a little hatch to get to the battery.

Yeah .my time zone is set correctly from the time when i installed my Win7 1 & half months earlier... I am from India, the only suitable time zone for me is " (U.T.C + 05:30) Chennai,Kolkata,Mumbai,New Delhi " ,& it is set accordingly by me. i told you in my original post that i have been experiencing this problem from the past 1 week or so.. this is a recent issue,

I assembled my system in January,2009.. so it is something more than 4 yrs old..

I used to have a UPS from very beginning.. but it has just stopped functioning recently(for nearly 1 month), and currently i'm running my pc directly by plugging it in to a extension cord & plugging in the extension cord to the wall sockets.

please help me find some solutions or tweaks.
Looking for your assistance..

Thanks in advance

Change your nickel-sized motherboard battery as WHS suggested.

Four to five years is their life span on a pc that is shut down every day; in my experience.

Those that run 24/7 can go 7-8 years.

An ACER OEM installed to a retail motherboard that reports as genuine, can only do so if using a hackers activation exploit, and means that your installation is counterfeit. Purchase a genuine Windows 7 installation, format and reinstall.

Using genuine Windows 7 will generally minimise the chances of having these sorts of issues, and ensures you will continue to receive help & support on this forum.

The problem is Linux. Linux stores the time as UTC in the BIOS while Windows stores the time as local time. Booting into Linux changes the BIOS time.

I don't have that issue on my dual boot with LinuxMint.
More then likely, Mint is storing the time in the BIOS in a method that is compatible to Windows by default. Mint is based on Ubuntu, Ubuntu is based on Debian which has the option at setup to store time as local like Windows. Sane defaults.

@logicearth, could not you help me to fix my issue then? You are right.. this problem has begun to occur after installation of Linux Fedora 16, it is very annoying one to have, every now and then i am being forced to manually adjust the time & after few moments from adjustments the clock is again going absolutely crazy & showing wrong time & date.. How long shall i keep on doing this... i agree that i have not bought Windows 7 but i downloaded it from the internet.... after all it is still Windows 7 of Microsoft... then why can't you guyz just tell me any fix ?it is really annoying me...

You have to pay Microsoft in order to use Windows. Its not available for free. We do not help those that steal. It is unethical.
