System Crashes When Entering Sleep Mode

About ever 2nd or 3rd time I send my desktop into sleep mode, the display goes black, there appears to be disk activity for approx 10 mins until the system figures out there a problem and powers down. Everything works fine when I reboot. Windows states that it was unexpectedly shut down but irt resumes and everything is OK. It usually goes to sleep fine for 1 or more times, but then on the 3rd or 4th time it goes to sleep it crashes again. Any ideas?

- System has latest service pack and all security and windows updates are up to date
- Motherboard is a Asus P8P67 Pro with 16GB DRAM

And, if you disable USB Selective Suspend , is the situation remains the same?

Arc, thanks very much for the reply and the very helpful links.. I have attached the SF Diagnostic files to the original post above. The information only goes back about a week because I ran CCleaner a week ago and it removed some older dumps.
I will look into the USB selective suspend.

Update it from MediaTek - Downloads Windows.

Do some General USB related troubleshooting, too. For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
5. Do the same for all.
6. Restart the computer.
7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.

And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

Arc, thank you ever so much for all the effort you put in to tracking down my problem. The Dlink USB Wireless Adapter is a device I purchased just before Christmas. I am assuming that Windows must have found and used some ancient driver when I plugged it in. I will update the driver. The only other devices always plugged into USB ports are Wacom Tablet, Huey Pro Calibration Sensor, and Keyboard. I will update all the drivers, rand disable USB selective suspend per your instructions above and will report bac on how everything is working.

About the net adapters ..... in most of the cases they come with older drivers, and the users are to update those.

Hi Arc, I updated all of the drivers and disabled USB selective suspend. The problem is still there. This time I waited approx 10 mins after doing Start > Sleep and the screen was black and the hard rive chugged along. Just before the PC shut down the power it flash up a screen full of blue text for just a few seconds. It said that there was an error and it was shutting down to protect the computer and it indicated the error as " Driver Power State Failure".
I have attached the latest SF Diagnostics folder. I forgot to mention last time - I have an APC Backup Power Supply which has been functioning without issue for 2 years, connect to one USB port. I can try disconnecting it before initiating sleep mode if you think that may be the source of the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply, Arc. When I ran the DLink updater it said that I already had the correct driver. I just went into the device manager and this device has a Power Management tab that has a tab to allow the PC to turn the device off to save power. I just disabled it to see if that makes any difference.
I do not have another wireless adapter but I can disconnect this one. I only recently bought it because my Cat 5 cable running downstairs to the router was cut and I had planned to install another one but it's a bit work going through walls. If that adapter is the problem I will either accelerate the cat5E cable or get a different brand adapter.

Update:
I used the Device Manager to disable the DLink Adapter just before I put the PC into sleep mode. AND it does go to sleep. I did this 4 times over the last couple of hours and no crashes so far!
I have sent an email to DLink support and will wait to hear back from them. I will also see if there are no more crashes for the rest of the day.

PC has successfully gone into sleep mode 10 times since yesterday morning with no BSOD - as long as I disabled the DLink adapter before I put it to sleep. No reply yet from DLink. Will let you know when they get back to me.
