Hi all,
I have a HP dv3-2314tx laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit OS which has two disk drives(C,D). D for recovery. C drive contains OS and all my files.
In Disk Management I marked C drive as "Mark Partition as Active". It was sowing some warning. But I pressed OK button. Now my laptop is not boots. What should I do? Should I reinstall my OS or any solution available?

hello and welcome.
for what you mark partition as active.
as i know, marking partition as active in an advanced task only perfomed by advanced users.

you can try to into your BIOS setting and set the time and date before the issue. and save setting. after that try to boot.

hope can help
Ryo~

dont worry this is really easy to fix!

insert your windows 7 cd and choose the repair option
then get to command prompt from the repair menu and write these:

Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk <replace this with the harddrive number that windows is installed on as seen eariler ( eg; 1 )>
list partition
select partition <replace this with the partition number that windows 7 is installed on ( using the information you saw when you typed in the list partition )>
active
exit

then restart your computer and if that does not work, try the startup repair for around 5 times until fixed :)

well i believe your problem caused by accidentally set two partition as active or bootable while in windows there's only on partition allowed to be set as active. Error that you got maybe like this
Warning

Do not mark a partition as active if it does not contain the loader for an operating system. Doing so will cause your computer to stop working.

Loader means bootable to load your windows
Solution-plug your hdd to other pc and use use disk management to unmarked it as active

Hi all,
I have a HP dv3-2314tx laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit OS which has two disk drives(C,D). D for recovery. C drive contains OS and all my files.
In Disk Management I marked C drive as "Mark Partition as Active". It was sowing some warning. But I pressed OK button. Now my laptop is not boots. What should I do? Should I reinstall my OS or any solution available?

Basically, you have most probably, as another indicated, declared the wrong partition to be active in other words to be the boot partition.

Now the procedure to fix this problem is essentially as suggested by iphone, except:

Boot up from your Win 7 DVD.
When you get to the very first dialog where you are giving a choice to do anything (what it is makes no difference), then:
SHIFT + F10 key combo

This gets you to a command prompt where you can use the DISKPART program.

The DISKPART program recognizes a set of commands.
Most of the ones of interest to you were given in another post.

· type DiskPart, Enter key
· type List disk, Enter key
note the numeral of the disk you want to clean
for example purposes, I’ll be using the numeral 0
· type Select disk 0, Enter key
· type Detail disk, Enter key
this info will let you know if you selected correctly
· type Select Partition 1, Enter key
this selects the Win 7 partition
· type Active, Enter key
this declares the partition as the boot partition
· type EXIT, Enter key (this exits DiskPart)
· type EXIT, Enter key (this gets you back where you were)

At this point, remove the DVD and reboot your system.

Why did you mark C active? Were you experiencing problems that led you to do this?

Most likely your System MBR is on a boot partition installed by your manfacturer. You either need to return the Active flag to that partition, or recover the System MBR into C: Win7 partition.

Using free Partition Wizard bootable CD, you can examine your drive map to see which is the System Partition, then rightclick it to Modify>Set to Active, OK. Next rightclick C to Modify>Set to Inactive.

If it won't start then you may need to repair the MBR by booting your Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

If no partitions now show the System flag, recover the System drive into C:Win7 by marking it active and running Startup Repair exactly as given in the paragraph above.

If you have the repair disk you created in Control Panel, boot to it, select use other options and select command prompt and follow the instructions given by Karlsnooks in post #5 above. If you don't have one you can use one made on another computer with the same Operating system as yours.

Mark the 100mb System REserved partition Active if you have it, otherwise the Win7 partition. Judge by size. If you don't know how to navigate using Diskpart then use free Partition Wizard CD, post back cam snap of drive map and listings.

windows failure to start because i set partition as active

I have the same problem but i have windows vista installed on C and windows 7 installed on D. I really want to solve this problem with out losing my files on C as they are important to me :(. can any one help with a simple solution or a detailed one as my knowledge in this area is small

thanks in advance.:)

Boot the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Vista or Win7 starts. If you've lost the Dual boot, install EasyBCD to add the missing OS: EasyBCD (free Download at bottom of page - no name or email required) .

If this fails Mark Win7 Partition Active and run the Repairs again. This should start at least Win7, so you can install EasyBCD to add Vista to the boot menu.

Hopefully you correctly installed Win7 originally from booted DVD so it sees itself as C when booted, as it does when correctly installed from boot and not run from another OS.

I eccidentely make my D drive active too....

So i follow karlsnooks steps, and it works! Many thanks! beside in my diskpart step:
on detail disk, i found my C partition size is inverted to D;

C: 500gb and D: 250gb.

And i realize for first time i set myleptop, my system partition(C:\) is less than the other one. So in diskpart i set my D partition in to Active and restart - windows nicely working.

Now when i open disk management my D drive still marked 'Active'. How can i set it to non active guys? thank you..

repair with command line using WINDOWS 10 ISO

hello everybody

i just had the same problem, using a DELL XPS M1330 i changed active partition without much caring about consequences. so i spent lots of hours in search of solution.

problem here is WINDOWS 7 download requires the key.
i didnt write down the key, i didnt have a repair image, nothing you can imagine as a system backup.

so i used free WINDOWS 10 ISO to reach the command line, than use diskpart and change partition back to (reserved 100mb) volume 0 partition.

and thats my story :p
