System down

AS per my other thread last week the Ivy Bridge crashed through a software problem then almost immediately the Intel LC cooler pump failed.

I eventually got it to go again with help but now the Microsoft support via logmein123 has told me that the registry is corrupt and asked for money to fix it. The computer is working well except for the start up messages in the pic and I do not have WLM and things have gone missing from the taskbar. docs, pics etc all in all a right royal mess in the OS it seems to me.

Could someone have a look at those errors and tell me if like I am feeling it is going to be have to be a clean install right now I have nothing to lose. My docs and pics I have on the other computers and to be honest trying convoluted ways of getting the registry back is going to take a lot of time if not impossible.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Well in my mind if you have no data issues then give a clean install a try, but have the drivers and list of software you'll want to re-install handy. I trust you'll be using a SSD and that makes the process so much faster as to almost be fun !

Maybe you want to wait to see if someone else has a quick fix?

Thanks linne I don't think personally it is going to be a quick fix mate so I shall just wait until I check the rest of the mail on the other machines then do a drive wipe and clean install. Yes I have a new 256 840 that I cloned from the 120 original 830 perhaps that has something to do with the OS and reg problems.

Yeah I hate it when our systems give us headaches but this doesn't sound like it will be to bad. At least it's getting back on track and of course always nice to have the SF as a friendly back up source !

Yes mate I am wiping the drive right now as I type and at least as you say it will be fresh and I know I have you folks around

Look over these same steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
since they collect everything that is easy to otherwise forget, and what works best.

Be sure to save a Win7 backup image from when it's all setup and working best so you don't have to reinstall at times like these.

Ok Greg I have just about got it done now except for the drivers (sound card etc) I used the OEM disk but in hindsight and if I had seen your post earlier I would have done that way

Yes mate I have the drive ready to go for that back up

John, I'd enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)
then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates with reboots.

The OEM driver disk is outdated shortly after its pressed. Updates can bring them up to date, then test performance to see if anything is lacking. I'd do this before saving the image.

Ok Greg wil do I just have to avoid that IE10 as my pay office is not up to scratch with it yet still on 9. But I will do that If there is a next time then I shall be prepared eh?
