System Freeze 50% of the time

Pity.

I'd been avoiding the testing of the hard drive since that can also be time-consuming.

I notice that in your Systm Specs, info regarding your hard drive is missing.

Probably the easiest is to download and use Speccy to get that info.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Here's another alternative that will overwhelm you with info:
SIW | Download

And then, of course, there is MSINFO32.EXE.

In any case, fill in the missing info. This will help me and others who come waltzing by. They can just take a glance out your specs without having to dig thru the thread.

Tigey,
Please post a copy of the Startup tab of MSCONFIG.

Or if you would rather you can use CCleaner's Tools' icon | Startup button | and on the far lower right is the option to save to a TXT file.

do you perchance use a webcam? If so, then what software?

While going along with what Karl has recommended, could you also have a read of the following?

Hope things work out and thanks Karl for the work done

Running default theme. No third party theme-ing or skinning installed. I will try un-installing Avira and see what happens tomorrow. My freezes only happen after the computer has been off for a while. After the freeze I restart, and all is right until I shut down and let it sit for a while.

Yeah. Those were related to the graphic card not getting enough power from the PSU. Fixed a while back, and I have not had problems with that since.

Also, of note: on the boot that freezes, the system will freeze and require reboot even from the login screen. It is unlikely that it is a third party program (unless there are some that are loaded before login) that is causing the problem.

Karl

This could be a TDR-related issue with his card. It is definitely hardware related. What I was trying to do was to isolate the software issues.
If there is a spare VGA card lying around you could try swapping the hardware to isolate the fault.

Hope this helps in some way and regards :)

Card-swapping isn't a bad idea.

I also do not know if the specific 9800 model he has, EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+, is on the ASUS approved list.

Am still reviewing. I have not ruled out software yet.

What we are seeing is also very common in memory leak problems. You see, sometimes we are told that the problem appears immediately at startup and other times we are told that the problem appears after 30 minutes and is cured by a restart which would point towards a possible software problem. I can't hit a moving target. I have to have consistent reports of the problem.

M4A79T Deluxe - freeze problems

Hello.

I have an identical problem to that described by Tigey - complete freeze of system sometime after startup, after reboot all is well until the system is restarted after a power off - each day. Problem seems to go away in the summer... Windows records daily critical events type 41 Kernal-Power.

I have swapped out all components including having RMA'd the processor. The motherbaord has been back to ASUS and had the bios changed. Memtests are fine. No apparent overheating problems.

Same problem has occured using XP64, XP32, W7 and Ubuntu operating systems.

Any assistance greatly appreciated. I am thinking of dumping the motherboard.

Great news on the fix. I am having a similar issue on a new build however I only experience the freezing issue when I have been using IE9. Machine was built for gaming, which it does like a champion. I will be posting the issue in a fresh thread with machine info etc etc.
