one other symptom was that taskbar icons would hang when closing an application and become non responsive, sometimes crashing explorer. also, 'windwos desktop manager' was crashing almost on a 15 minute schedule.
imho, it had more to do with some corruption in the themes applied than the intel option, but the intel rotation option did seem to play a role.
once i applied the classic theme (which i've never used before) everything seemed fine, but other aero based themes and windows basic still were problematic. I deleted custom saved themes which gave the same problem while in the classic theme, and then one of the basic aero themes (windows basic maybe?) started cooperating, so i rebuilt a custom theme based on that and everything works fine now. Deleting the corrupted custom themes was very pivotal and got me over the hump.
google chrome needed some cleaning up too as it had become terrible slow. i had a collection of disabled video downloader extensions installed. i removed all of them, turned off the rest, and then turned on the ones i wanted to keep one by one. so all the hamsters are happy now, and it's like a new computer.
funny how over time as things slow down and get wierd and you just go with it, hardly noticing. nice to have a like new computer again. anyhow, chome, aero, and general computing is so much better now. not sure if that's cured the errors with the desktop manager crashing yet, but i'm confident that will have done the trick.
peace. hippydave.
