System freezing while playing StarCraft 2

Hello SevenForums, I've really reached the end of my ability on this one and I don't know what to do next. About 2 months ago I invested in a new computer, and since then I've been experiencing random system freezes, about three times per week, sometimes up to three times per day. Sound stops coming out of the speakers, and both my monitors freeze on whatever they're currently showing, until I reboot.

StarCraft 2 is always running when the freeze hits, but SC2 is generally always running anyway, so I'm not sure if they're related. I've done graphics driver updates, shifted my RAM to different slots, all the usual stuff. Nothing seems to be helping.

I've followed the BSOD instructions and attached the resulting zip file. Please let me know if you need any additional info. Thanks for your time.

You would do the members a big favor by filling up your system Specs. Perhaps also explain how you went ahead and updated your Video drivers? Have you also updated your audio drivers?

Hey there, I've filled in all my system specs on my profile. I updated my graphics drivers by going through the nVidia website. I've only installed the audio drivers that came with my motherboard (onboard sound).

Did you uninstalled the drivers and then ran the Nvidia drivers sweeper as well?

Or you just updated ontop of the old drivers?

Updating your audio drivers can not hurt... you may want to try that as well.

I installed on top of the old drivers. I'll try uninstalling completely and reinstalling, both the video and the audio drivers.

I have a feeling my older graphics card may be the issue. I was playing Rift last night, and when I cranked the graphics settings up to full, the computer would shut down soon after.

You have a GTX285, I would assume that it should be better than my GTX260? perhaps not by much but just enough so I don't see how your graphics card is the culprit... unless of course, you got a faulty one for some reason.

I believe that uninstalling the video and audio drivers, running the sweeper and installing a fresh copy afterwards should help... just make sure that when you are running the sweeper you tell it to ONLY clean the video drivers and not the chipset drivers (if you are also running Nvidia on your board).

Sorry I wasn't clear, I've been running this card pretty heavily for 3 years (took it from my system before the upgrade) and I think it may have become faulty (or at the least, the issue is related to the graphics card, like with the drivers), since I seem to be able to produce the crash when I really push the computer graphically. Is this a safe assumption to make?

I wouldn't know that, I never push my cards nor I know what the symptoms would be when that happens... I would assume that when you push the card past his max, all it would do is go to a black screen, recover and let you know that it can not handle those specs but it would not freeze like that.

I could be wrong though and that is why I would assume that drivers may have more to do... again, I could be wrong.
