System.IO.FilenotFoundException

was removing some custom software and did these steps (below) but I received an IO error...any ideas why this happened and what i should be looking for?


1. Control Panel
2. Add/Remove Programs
3. Click HiSoftware
4. Click Uninstall
5. Uninstall begins (progress bar)
6. Error appears
7. Close the program

It might just be a coincidence, but csinstall.exe is generally found with Comet Cursor software, which is known malware and never removes properly (and if so, this isn't really surprising). Again, it could be a coincidence, but I would guess it may not be.

Malware..ummm..Interesting..

That is very interesting feedback about the CSInstall.exe. I know exactly where that .exe came from. It's Propriatary Software called Compliance Sheriff that I have installed and am trying to unistall at the moment but you have me thinking about the possible lousy naming convention of an .exe. I will do more research and see what I can find.

Any other ideas about the actual I/O file not found problem?

You'd have to run a procmon log while attempting to uninstall to answer that question at this point. And yes, bad exe name choice for sure .

ProcMon Tool

Thank you for directing me to the ProcMon Tool. I have downloaded it and will become familiar. What 's the best way or function of running the ProcMon Tool will show the reason behind this error? Do I run it before, during or after to gain insight to the problem? Thanks for your help.

Ah, procmon. It's going to generate (line-by-line) a trail of every I/O and process event that happens on the system, which can be used to try and help us figure out what happened .
