After all these years I finally installed "System Password". I gues I was bored. The problem is that I use Logitech MX5500 Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. When the system starts up it does not have the Logitech drivers installed and my keyboard does not work and I get a wrong password error. After about 2 or 3 tries it goes and boots up.
I can't find how to reset the system password in my Vista book, I want to get rid of it and go back to no password. Thank you, in advance,

You can boot into safe mode (F8) And during the boot hit shift-F10. This will take you to a command prompt. At the prompt type

net user administrator /active:true

This should (if my syntax s correct) enable the hidden administrator account.

You can then reboot into the admin account, go to the user control panel and remove the password from your account.

Let us know if you need help

My problem is not with the Admin Password but with the "System Password", I think it's the same as user PW. I got into the AdminAccount and it does not show System PW reset or set. Maybe I'll stumble over it later or some one will let me know from forum.

Thank you

Is this a BIOS based password that appears before windows starts?

If so you need to reset this from outside windows

Good question. I don't remember playing around the BIOS. But it is definitely called System Password. It was set in Vista mode. Win 7 not running yet.

A lot of BIOS chips have in-built security normally for preventing actual entry into the BIOS and sometimes a password to allow the system to boot past the initial POST.

These can be removed by various methods which will be explained in the manual for your motherboard - but often require removing the CMOS battery or changing links on the board,

Yes, YES now it's all clear how I got myself into this mess. I changed the CMOS battery and when I booted the computer it asked if I wanted to set a System PW and I did BUT it does not tell you that you need a wired keyboard. I have to open up the computer again so I'll just remove the battery and I'll be back to no PW, like I been doing for umpteen years. Thank you all.
