System Recovery

My HP Pavilion DV7 laptop will not do a system recovery after I hit F11 when I boot the PC.

The recovery drive on my computer says it's just about full.

It's running windows 7 64-bit

Recov partitions are often disabled by clean install of another OS. But their image file can be extracted and run.

My problem was a activation issue that couldn't be helped over the phone so the lady at microsoft wanted me to call the technicians. Well I decided against it and tried to find another way and thankfully the key on the bottom of my computer can be used when activating window so it's genuine (which I didn't know).

But because I had nothing important on my computer I was going to try and just do a system recovery. So I really have no solution, now I could still try and do a recovery if you would like me to try extracting and getting it to run. Just let me know I would be happy to help.

If your computer is less than a year old, then you still have tech support under warranty to get the Recovery partition fixed, which is normally handled by sending you a Recovery disk set. Even if out of warranty, most maker's only charge shipping so you can decide if it is worth it to you to have the disk set which will restore the computer to factory condition.

With the disk set, you can even delete the Recovery partition to recover the space into your OS if you are happy with it, run the DIsks to reinstall both the Recov partition and the OS, or just sit on them and see how things go.

Most tech enthusiasts try to find a clean copy DVD installer of the OS so they can clean reinstall without the factory bloatware using the Product Key stickered to the machine. With HP, you can even extract your favorite apps from the Recovery Disks, or find any needed drivers on their webiste Downloads page for your model. http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...are-after-clean-win-7-install.html#post488270

Finally, we have been hearing reports here that MS is mandating that makers must provide a clean copy DVD of the OS (as they did with Upgrade kits Vista>Win7) if customers demand them. Perhaps you can test this if you want and report back what you find.

Just a friendly warning- that message about the recovery drive being full is highly undesirable. The Recovery partition on OEM computers are only meant to be READ from and not written to. What happens is that, often unknowingly for the user, system restore points keep getting written to that partition. This will render the Recovery partition unusable. You can configure your machine NOT to do so, see this page on how to.

Sorry to be unclear Bill2, it has 2.3Gigabytes of space left. I don't know why I was thinking it was full.
