I use windows backup on each of my 3 computers, each with its own external hard drive.
Each of my system repair discs are up to 2 years old. I have made no internal changes to the computers. Do I ever have to create new discs?

Yes I agree there is no need in principle but the media (CD/DVD) is so cheap I'd have some newer spare system repair discs lying around. They could last the lifetime of your PCS but I don't just them 100%. The other thing is that readers can wander out of alignment a little over time. - Just my view.
