Hello there. This are Windows 7 system requirements for Windows 7.
Copyed from here

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
But this are just minimum system req. Of cource if you want to play games, work with big programs like Maya,SolidWorks,AutoCAD/CAM etc... you'll need more that 4gb ram memory and also fast cpu. (that also costs more money. :) )
Give us more info about what you want to work with your pc. :)

I would suggest to add 2 GB more in order to use Ultimate, just because it has more services started than any other version (Ultimate concatenates Home Premium, Enterprise and Pro in one edition)... that should be more than enough unless you want more intensitive apps running on your machine.

By now I have HP and Pro with 4 GB and they run just fine, I even use Photoshop and Particle Illusion and no slowdowns. Your processor is just fine

See ya!!! :D

Your half right, Enterprise and Ultimate are identical, it's just Enterprise is for business, and Ultimate is for Home (officially)

Actually, ALL versions of Windows 7 are Ultimate, they just have features locked out, depending on what edition you install. This is how Easy Upgrade works, it just unlocks more features when you upgrade.

I will second the recommendation to go to 4GB of Ram, not because Ultimate starts more services, (it doesn't.... Windows only starts the services you actually need, so unless you're using Ultimate only services, such as Bitlocker, then it won't start more) but because 4GB of Ram seems to be the "sweet spot" when it comes to 7

Not to mention the fact that you only really start feeling the benefits of 64 bit at 4GB of Ram, (it's not the only difference, but it's probably the most significant)

Having said that, 2GB of Ram is enough to run Ultimate comfortably, but it really does depend what your using it for. Anything beyond light tasks like Web browsing, word processing etc, and you may have a problem.

It's not a requirement - but if you don't have 4gb+ of ram you may as well stick with 32bit.

Unless you plan on adding more memory down the road, considering how dirt cheap it is right now. If you have the x64 OS in place, all you need to do is pop in the extra memory...no OS changes necessary.
