system restore and xp

I have win 7 and xp on a dual boot , how can I when booting to xp , stop it from deleting my win 7 restore points ????

thankyou brink also thanks for the tutorial on win7/xpdual boot it worked a treat, so all I ned do is apply the reg tweak in xp and thats it ???

I've just read through that tutorial and have one question: If (using the example) \DosDevices\D: (the Windows 7 disk as seen in XP) is already listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices, do I just right-click and Delete that entry?

And then create it in the Offline branch?

CD/DVD devices and External disks show up in the list as DosDevices too.

What are the other entries (that start something like \\??\\Volume{8c6b5f60)? USB memory sticks? Other USB (non-disk) devices?. Is there any harm in deleting them?

If you wish to have XP to be able to see Windows 7 again, then yes (step 5). If not, then check to make sure that \DosDevices\D: is set to 1 to hide Windows 7 from XP.

Sorry, I was not clear with my question. I meant, if an entry for "\DosDevices\D" appears in in the MountedDevices branch (not the MountedDevices\Offline branch), should it be deleted from there?

And then the entry you described in Step 4 created in the MountedDevices\Offline branch?

Oh, ok. No you would not want to delete "\DosDevices\D" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices.

You would still want to add it to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\Offline location to stop XP from seeing Windows 7.
