System Restore: "Cannot find a system image"

Hi,

I have been trying to use windows backup for system images. However, whenever I try to load a system image, i get this error "Windows cannot find a system image on this computer." The image is being saved in the correct location when I check the folder. However, when I perform the backup it appears that the backup process is finishing abruptly (the progress bar will jump from 75% to 100% way too fast).

I tried disabling my antivirus (Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5002.333), and I tried running in Safe mode when performing the backup. The same thing happens.

I am saving the backup file on a 200gb partition of a RAID1 configuration, while the OS is on a separate drive in SATA mode. However I have another system with identical software saving to a RAID1 backup array, but it works perfectly. Only difference is the hardware (Intel+different mobo).

I really would prefer not to have to reinstall the whole OS to try to fix this, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (Student License, Downloaded File)
Mobo: Asus M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II 955
Storage:
2x 800gb WD Black in RAID1
OS on Intel 80gb x25-m

Try using the free version of Macrium Reflect instead. I don't have a Raid array, but I have a Raid controller and have had trouble restoring with some image backup apps. The new Macrium Reflect 4.2 works with my Raid controller(it's not the PC in my spec, it's my Vista64 PC with quad core and raid, HP Pavilion m9515y)

using 64bit 'restore disc' follow Brink's tutorial..method 2 and at step 6 choose 'system image recovery'

MilesAhead: I bet that I'll end up having to use another program. Thanks for the recommendation. The strange thing is that my other computer runs backup just fine with a very similar setup. All same software, RAID array etc. Only difference is that it is an Intel CPU/Mobo system, while this is an AMD. I have a feeling that it is just one of those windows things...

The hardware support for image backup/restore is touch and go. To save the image, you have all the Windows drivers and all that. To restore, you have to rely on the Boot CD. One thing about the paid Macrium, if the Linux Boot CD doesn't work with your HD controller, you can download WinPE and make a boot disc using the Windows driver.. as long as you have the .inf files to load it in. In that case if you're using it in Windows then nearly 100% of the time you should be able to restore to it.
