System restore image not working/cannot be found?

So way back when I installed windows on my SSD I made a system image restore doohickey, using the "Create A System Image" tool, once I had applied all the necessary settings, installed drivers, etc. Now, windows is experiencing problems and I wish to restore to this back up. How on earth do I do this? The images don't have any kind of runnable-files inside to use. And when I use the recovery disk it says it cant find any image. Ive explored windows various restore utilities and the likes, and at no point does it simply say something like "Please select the file location of your restore image". I have the system image doohickey just sitting there...how do I tell windows to just use that backup? It all seems to be trying to do it in some automated fashion..

Any ideas?

That was the tutorial I was looking for, couldn't find it >.<. For a start, it wasnt called "WindowsImageBackup". I have fixed that and shall continue with the tutorial, ill get back to you if there are any more issues.

"WindowsImageBackup"is the name of the folder. Did you rename it yourself? If so... rename it back to "WindowsImageBackup"

Yes, I renamed it so I could file it away. I renamed the file back to WindowsImageBackup, started the process, but after restarting when windows went to scan for the backup image, despite the folder "WindowsImageBackup" sitting in plain sight in C drive, windows says it was unable to locate any backup file, and so I have to abort the process (as there is nothing more I can do from there).

So you boot from win7 dvd or win7 system repair disk and start the restore process. WindowsImageBackup is on external disk? folder name is really WindowsImageBackup

What do you want to do.... restore 1 or more partitions? Or make destination disk totally empty and restore?

Boot to win7 recovery environment. Select Commadn Prompt install of Restore.

DIR C:\
DIR D:\
DIR E:\

Do you see the WindowsImageBackup folder?
If not...... To which port is the disk connected (esata,usb2.0, usb3.0)?
usb3.0 isn't working in recovery environment. So use an usb2.0 port.
