Hello Everyone,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition. My problem is with system restore. Everytime I turn off my computer and turn it on again it erases all my system restore points. I don't know y it is doing this because I have it set to 4% of my hard drive which is 9.36GB, which would take alot more than 1 restore point to fill up. Is this normal or is this a problem and do other have problems with this as well?

Gabriel,

Are you running any cleaning porgrams (ex: CCleaner) that may have a option to delete restore points?

Is it deleting all restore points, or all but the most recent one? If just all but the most recent one, then you might see if bumping it up to 10% may help keep more stored?

If it is all of them, then you might consider doing a repair install.

no im not running anything that i know of....the only thing that i guess would come close to that is i installed AVG 9.0 free edition but thats probably not it...and yea it deleting all my restore points so im left with none everytime i turn off/startup windows...it never did this before with xp...and the thing is i tried re-installing windows and its still doing it lol so i don't think repair will work...anything else will be helpful im stumped

Avast is avastly better than AVG, IMO. Have put it on over 100 machines w/o a single issue or virus.

Hear lots of reports of AVG problems.

Check the Event Viewer for repeat errors: type Event Viewer in start box, expand Custom for Admin view

well AVG has never given me any problems but ill keep that one in mind...i already tried looking under event viewer and their is nothing about deleting system restore points on startup...im stumped!

i already did another custom install and it still does it so i don't think a repair install will work...heres the other story which could be the problem...a couple of months i was playing a computer game...the power went out and my computer shut down...when i went to restart my computer after it posts for the first screen i get a message that flashes for a split second saying "detecting array"...this msg never flashed before the power outage so i think it screwed with my hardd rive since i have no array setup in my computer and raid is disabled...i also tried clearing the CMOS but that did not work...could it be my hard drive got messed up from the power outage which is causing system restore to screw up?...thats the only other problem with my computer.

Very possible. Run diagnostics from your hard drive maker. WD has Data Lifeguard, Seagate has Seatools, etc. Then run chkdsk.

Are you using the correct SATA controller driver?

Okay its a 250GB 7200rpm 16mg Seagate Barricuda Hard Drive...do i have to download seatools? and im using whatever sata controller driver is default but where do i check the sata controller driver?...i have never messed with that before.

okay hears what ive tried doing before download the seatools...ive tried moving the system protection slider that tells u the maximum memory system restore uses and i moved the slider all the way to the right...which means i put it to 100% which is all 238.22GB just to see if it would make a difference...I created a restore point shut off my computer and started it back up and the restore point was still their...the only problem with this is that the size of the restore points are to big and would fill up my harddrive to fast...but by default when it is at 4% (the slider) which uses 9.32GB of my hard drive it removes the system restore points...i don't understand what the difference is...any thoughts?
