System Restore not able to Restore

I can create restore points. I just can't restore from them. I get this message:

System restore failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore.

I have tried restoring in Safe Mode.
I have deleted all restore points and turned off sys protection, rebooted and turned System protection back on.
I have uninstalled Kaspersky (my system protection).
I have made sure Volume Shadow Copy is started.

I know it used to work.
Any ideas?

Try doing a scan using MalwareBytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. Scan both your C:\ & D:\ partions. Let us know your results.

Hopefully, this is caused by an infection, and you can clean it out, then you shoudl be able to do it.

1) Run CMD as admin, then type the following command:

vssadmin list shadowstorage

Then look at the amount of space under "Used Shadow copy Storage space". This will tell you whether you actually have any restore points.

2) Create a restore point manually, then try and restore to that.

Bill,
He knows that there are restore, as he can see them and he selected one, even though it failed. Also, it would be pointless for him to restore to his current copy, as he is trying to go further back.

Is there something i am not understanding?

restore point damaged or deleted

Having the same problem as acook. I get the following message;
"System resote did not complete sucessfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: System restore failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or deleted during the restore."
I have tried all the suggested troubleshooting methods.
- tried to do restore in safe mode
- have run the scan disk and no errors were found
- have confirmed that shadow copy storage space is being used
-confirmed that Volume shadow copy was activated

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running windows 7 home premium, 64-bit.
