I did something yesterday and now there are no sound on my computer. I did the antivirus scans and there are no viruses. There must be something wrong with the registry. I want to restore but the restore is not responding when I click on it. Also there is a message in the corner about AVG and Window Defender is turn off, but I can't turn it on because it won't respond. Also Script Error when opening services.msc .

Have you tweaked Win7 any beyond normal system settings? Win7 is already too lean and optimized to stand much tweaking without problems which will almost always result.

Uninstall inferior bloated AVG and install MS Security Essentials which is the preferred free AV around here. It works invisibly with the Win7 firewall. Let MSE update and run a full scan: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Then install Malwarebytes, update and run a Full Scan: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Update your Sound driver in Device Manager. Try auto update. You may have newer drivers cued in optional Windows Updates, or else import the driver from Support Downloads webpage for your computer or sound device model.

Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

If this fails run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

Although System Restore is an important capability offered by Windows 7. I have had sufficient problems with it, that I rely on system imaging to get me out of bother. Sometimes system restore has placced the OS in a worse state absolutely requiring reimaging.
Always have a "good" image to fall back on.
