System Restore not working?

Win 7 64 bit

I have tried restoring to a previous point but it says my files were not changed and that an antivirus may have conflicted. So I did in safe mode. But got the same response. However, I think it is rolling back because a program I had installed disappeared on one attempt and also the updates for NAV 2010 disappear and it has to be updated again.

There was an error something like 0x000002 and i searched but mostly tells how to fix errors with SR

Type "Services.msc" into your search bar.

Right click Norton and select properties. Set the service to disabled, click apply and then ok.

Don't forget to re-enable Norton when you are finished with your restore.

Also, I'm not sure if this is the same for Norton AV, But in Norton 360 it wont let you disable it in your services list. (A tampering security measure).

If that's also the case with Norton AV, Right click the icon in your task bar and see if there is an option for "Silent Mode". Set that for an hour or so.

yes there is a silent mode. But in safe mode norton would not run would it? Or would it? And yet I get the error. Thanks

There is absolutely no reason to dump Norton.

Sounds like that's more trouble than it's worth to me, when other AV's don't hinder System Restore.

I never really run system restore so it's not really a hinderance to me. If I have a serious problem, I'll just re-image the hard drive.

I do like the fact that it does stop those changes from happening from a security stand point.

very good that had occurred to me. how would i stop it and why do some changes happen even if SR says they don't

Open Norton, go to "Misc Settings", locate "Norton Product Tamper Protection" and turn it off...

Save settings, reboot, and run System Restore.

After completing SR remember go back into Norton and turn on "Norton Product Tamper Protection"

Yes it worked. I turned on silent mode and turned off Norton Tamper Protection. Could not disable in services as its greyed out. Many thanks guys, much appreciated
