If you go to:

Control Panel (showing all items) ---> System ---> System Protection ---> Click on hard drive and then 'Configure'

Do you have the 'Restore system settings and previous versions of files' radio button highlighted?

I have on system restore, but have UAC off because of a WORD problem. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Hello billberry12.

It is never a good idea to disable UAC as that gives any malware that finds its way into the system un-checked control over the entire system, UAC is the last defense to alert you of potential intrusions.

I would seriously consider re-enabling UAC as it serves an extremely useful purpose for protecting against unauthorised use of your computer.

One good reason why you are not seeing a lot of restore points, Windows 7 only creates one automatically if one hasn't been created manually or by the install of something that triggers one every 7 days,

Restore Points (Windows)

System Restore can be configured to create restore points at regular intervals. Users can also manually create and name a restore point at any time from within the System Restore user interface. These restore points are saved and compressed, and these choices are available to the user through the System Restore user interface. System Restore in Windows 7 creates a scheduled restore point only if no other restore points have been created in the last 7 days. System Restore in Windows Vista creates a checkpoint every 24 hours if no other restore points were created that day. System Restore in Windows XP creates a checkpoint every 24 hours of absolute time.

Hello mate.

I just set-up the one with no description and it worked flawlessly, which one are you using?

I / you should get UAC prompts as soon as windows starts/you log-on, did you?

this one first --> then this one.

Here's how ...

Extract the Zip file to the desktop ...

Cut "Instant Restore Point" file and paste to "Program Files" not the x86 one.

Cut1.jpgPaste1.jpg

Then open the "Startup File in the start menu ....

Startup.jpg

Then cut/paste the "Instant Restore Point" shortcut into the Startup folder.

Cut2.jpgPaste2.jpg

Then close everything and restart and it will work. ;)
