System Restore Points

Hello,

I have been checking my System Restore Points and I noticed that it only showed my initial one (Aug 17), then Aug 30 and 31, but none after that, and today is September 2. I have check the Task Manager, and it said last run was September 2 and was successful. Then why didn't it show up in the System Restore list?

Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.

By default, System Restore in Windows 7 creates a scheduled restore point once every 7 days if no other restore points have been created. (Last paragraph this Microsoft article.) And this tutorial explains more about restore points, particularly the need to have system protection turned on and how to change the amount of disk space used to save restore points.

Thank you for your quick response. I understand how does System Restore work and its schedule. I have set it as DAILY, that's why I asked this question. I am sorry I didn't make it clear in my original post.

That's why it showed August 30 and 31 on the list. But why it didn't show Sept 1 or 2, that's my issue since I scheduled it as Daily and at 12am.

Hello Brink,

No, I didn't install the shortcut. I just use the setting in the Task Manager to set up my schedule. I have checked the "Wake the computer to do this task" box. So the task should start even if my PC is asleep.

I just manually created a System Restore Point, and it did show up on the list.

If you like, adjust your scheduled task to run the instant shortcut (program) instead to see if that may help.

OK, I think I'll wait a couple more days to see if any new System Restore Points show up after today. If none, I'll try the Shortcut option. I'll post an update in a few days.

I have a question, If I install the shortcut. What will happen to the one in the Task Manager? Will this shortcut override the one in the Task Manager?

The shortcut (.vbs file) doesn't actually install. The shortcut only automatically runs Windows create restore point for you.

Instead, you would save it to where you wanted to keep it, then have the task set to run the .vbs file.

I tried to install the shortcut. But for some reasons, it did not install the way the instructions shown. I probably did something wrong along the way.

Anyway, I have given up and decide to manually create the Restore Points instead.

As I always say, XP is one of the, if not the best OS Microsoft has ever released. I have no problem with system restore, backup with XP but have problems with Win 7. I guess I'll get used to it eventually.
