Earlier today I did a system restore on my computer and during the restoring registries part the computer froze up and I had to power off. I am just wondering if that could mess up my windows at all because it seems now that it takes a bit longer to start and if I restart the computer it will shut down but not restart. Is this a different problem or should I reinstall a clean copy of Windows again? Any advice would be awesome.

Hello Richard my friend...That was the earliest restore point that I had. I had erased Vista completely and installed 7 about a week ago but started crashing so I thought it may have been something I installed. Everything I have on my comp is saved on externals so wipe outs are not a big problem. Just wondering if its worth it to do it again or did the shutdown during restore not cause any real damage.

Depends on what you have

Documents, save to a finger drive
Programs make sure you have the DVDs

Email back up the mail to finger drive etc.

How were you going to back up if your reinstalled.

Probably the repair install will not touch much personal stuff, but you should be careful.

If you did not mention registry, I would just say an SFC, System File Check.

Anytime I've had to do a reinstall I have saved the program installers on a external. I only use maybe five programs. One of which is ffdshow. I don't know if that is the best codec program to use or if it is causing me problems. But if I erase my hard drive I usually just install the couple of programs all over again. Am I going about this stuff the right way or is the repair install just as good and easier.

I think with the problem that you may have, a repair install is all that you need. Give it a try, its easy, and you probably will not have to reinstall. I say back up in case some personal stuff is deleted.
