system restore set up?

when i went in to the system restore set up. it was set to off , and 0 , so i set it to 2g,and clicked middle button .what is best way to set this up for most dates to show.as i put a lot of stuff on and some time's it goofs up the system. the link below shows how i set it up. should i have'd use the top one. thanks for any info u can give me. xbill

You are given a choice and there is no right or wrong. I have mine set at the first selection; settings and files. It will not take that much more room to save both, and in the event of a problem, you will be glad that it will be easy to use restore and get started, again, quickly.
Its like insurance, is $100,000 right or is 250,000 right? If you knew if you were going to have a problem the answer would be easy; but usually the future is not known.
Why not make an image of the hard drive and put it away, in emergency that will always be there to bail you out, even with a major problem.

I think that 2gb would be fine, just as long as you are not going to use space that is needed for your other software; programs etc.
I have a HD of 640gb. I will never be able to use all that, so I am set at much higher than 2gb, but you need to set it for what is good for you.

I always take the first option. And for the OS partition, 2GB is kind of tight. A restore point can be up to 1GB. In that case you would always only have 2 restore points. I would give it at least 10GBs - unless you are really tight on disk space.

Per the screen shot it looks like 2gb is 16%, thats why I went with the 2gb.

Yeah, That is 2% of the OS partition. But question is how much space he has in total on the HDD and could he increase the size of this puny OS partition.

If you dont need all that space for programs etc, go to at least 10GB.

Vista used to reserve 15% as default. But since Win7 writes restore points less frequently, I would also vote for 10% or at least 10GB - whichever is bigger.
