System Restore will not setup

I reloaded Win 7 pro 64 on my machine the other day. Now when I go to Windows backup it is not set up. When I click 'set up backup' it opens a dialog box that says 'starting windows backup' and runs for a minute or so then I get the error....


I have tried the suggestions in the System Restore Not Working - Windows 7 x64 thread.

Can you create a manual restore point?

I had changed the VSC service from manual to auto but did now know about the MSCP service. Changed that to auto and then set a manual restore point.

This fixed things.

So problem is solved?
Both services are setup with startuptype MANUAL by default!

All that is in that folder are *.eti files

I did get to set a restore point. And the system restore does now work.

The windows backup is still broke. I guess the system restore is what I really want.

Post those etl files please (put them in a zip file and post zipfile)

I turned on Block Level Backup Engine Service, it was set to manual.

If this means you did a clean install I'm not sure why you are having these problem unless you or something has been fooling around in Windows Services.
By default after a clean install both restore point and backup should be working correctly without doing anything special.

What anti virus and or firewall programs are you using.
Where did you get you copy of Windows 7 Pro?

My research finds that your Ideacenter comes with Windows 8.

The computer came with Win 7 Premium but it had a bad hard drive on it after a couple of days. Got the new hard drive and installed Win 7 Pro.

This last install was clean if you mean a new install.

No one has been messing with anything but me and other than setting some permissions for wireless network access no major changes have been done.

I am using Avast with their latest version 8.0.1489 and Windows Firewall at whatever the default settings are.

I did run a boot scan after installing the Avast on the new Win and their were a lot of files from the windows.old folder that were corrupted. I can't say what it did to the new Win 7 install.

It is a Hitachi HD. I've had two of these Lenovos. First one was DOD when I took it out of the box. Bad hard drive. It got hit by lightening a seek after I got the new HD from Lenovo. So I got another and the HD went bad in it a month after having it.

I'll PM the info on where I got the Win 7. I have been using it for over a year.

Hitachi is western digial as far as I remember.
