Hello
I am afraid to move the slide on Win 7 system restore because I don't want to lose recent points.
I think once I move the slide back and it did remove the mosr recent but I don't truly remember.
I want to remove old ones and leave it at about 5% not 9%.
Is the only way to do this with a cmd or will the slide erase older ones first as this would be easier if it worked?
Thank you

Hello seven2,

It would be much safer to use the slider. It's only applied after you click on OK or Apply though.

If you move the slider back to reduce the maximum disk space usage, then Windows will automatically delete older restore points to meet the new max size. If you like, you could always create a new restore point afterwards to make sure that you have a fresh one.

Hope this helps, :)

restore point.

Yes it does help as I was not sure if new or old points were removed as the slide was moved back.
Thank you

points

Thank you - I set mine at 9% which brings me back about a month.
I use a seondary registry backup which backs up upon logon and I set for 11 days before the oldest drops off. I used the task scheduler with it but find log on to be the best way. It actually lets you back up with each log on or only once per day as you may wish to reboot at times.

stop using a "secondary registry backup". this is Win 7 and not eXPired.

Such programs can only cause you problems.

problems

I was not aware of that.
Let me write to the author and get back to you. I don't need trouble.
His works on the shadow volume copy or something like that which is supposed to be harmonious with Windows..
I'll be back.

problems

I just conveyed the situation to the author and hope the link I gave him will get him here to address the issue. I do not want to have problems and appreciate your warning. I would like to see if there is a problem here as the program is really easy and seems to have run so well for so long by backing up and restoring.
Please write if you have not heard soon.T
If I am allowed I would give you the name of the site and forum if you wish
Thank you

Rreply

I just got this in my inbox;
"Probably he wanted to say that using System Restore is more than sufficient. Ok with that, but it could be easily corrupted and/or damaged from malware.
I think using a secondary registry backup is a good precaution, anyway."

I do not know enough about this to reach a secure conclusion. I used the program because a friend in England ok'd it and he is MS MVP.
I guess it is a personal decision.
I can stilll give you the site to speak with him if you wish or we can call it a day.
I was only looking for help and did not mean to cause a problem.

No worries seven2. You didn't cause any problems.

It's more of a personal choice to use those type of programs or not. Some are good, while others are nothing but junk and can cause issues. That's why we usually don't recommend them to be on the safe side. :)

I notice he amended his quote to read,"Probably he wanted to say that using System Restore is more than sufficient. Ok with that, but it could be easily corrupted and/or damaged from malware as can any Windows program."
I think using a secondary registry backup is a good precaution, anyway."

At any rate I am happy to hear that all is peaceful. ;)
