System Sounds are gone!

Hello,
suddenly I find that my system sounds are gone!
I can hear audio from videogames, mp3 and youtube, but I lost the login sound, the usb insert/removal sound and so on! I don't have a working restore point and I tried to go to Mixer-> Audio -> Sounds -> Predefined and click Play button but I can't hear anything!
Sound files C:\windows\media\ are correctly playing with Windows Media Player in the folder but if I choose them in that window they won't play!
Is there anything to fix that?
I'm using Win7 x64 Ultimate

Right click speaker icon select sound, in the popup window make sure box is checked for; Play Windows Startup sound. Next in the popup window,from the drop down menu select windows default under sound scheme, then click apply then ok and reboot.

Check the volume mixer (double-click speaker icon at taskbar) to see if "system sounds" is muted or has been turned down low.

If what merkat106 said didn't work, there could be a [small] chance that your Windows audio files are either missing or corrupted

Open a Command Prompt window and type in:
sfc /scannow

Again, small chance that this might help, but I had a friend with a similar problem and this fixed it.

Oh...two things: system volume is not muted and i already tried sfc/scannow in an elevated command prompt...it didn't fixed it. I will try making another user as suggested in the other thread

I found the solution..and someone thinks that Adobe Flash Player is causing this problem sometimes.
Anyway, here is the fix:

This will fix: No Volume Control in Taskbar, no windows system sounds & schemes, & no flash player sound (my flash player anyway was working good). This fix is for XP too...

All you need to do is to open registry editor by going to Start menu, Run, typing regedit and then press ENTER. After that, in the registry editor, walk yourself through the tree in the left pane, till you reach

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

And then on the right pane, right click and click on New, select String value, enter "wavemapper" (without quots of course), press ENTER
Then right-click on "wavemapper", select modify, and type "msacm32.drv" (without quotes)into the Value Data field.
Close the registry editor. All should now be fine without a reboot.

The only strange thing...the only system sound scheme working is the predefined ...others won't work for now..i will try to delete & remake them. I'm so happy!

Had this issue happen to me after a power outage, no new software installed other than a Chrome update and bam!, no more system sounds while music and movies are playing fine... I've seen this solution posted 10 years ago in some places and now it happened to me too.

I try everything, but only this solution works, it is super.

OK, i post this in 2018, and my trouble was on Windows 8.1, but it work perfectly.

I went to the volume mixer and, for some reason, system sounds were muted.
