system tray programs

Hello,
I have this issue with the system tray.
Some icons won't show up,whatever I do.
Who can help?

Hello Wideglide,

It depends on the program if it places a icon in the system tray (notification area) or not. If it does, then there may be a setting in the program to check to turn the icon on.

What programs is this for?

This programs just show up one time,and hide another time.
For instance:Winpatrol.

I found this in the Options in WinPatrol that you can double check to make sure it's unchecked to have the tray icon.

The option is set to show the icon.
The problem is,it sometimes shows up,and it sometimes hide after a start/restart.
I have the same problem with about 3 other programs.

Ok. Double check these items below to see if one or more may be the issue instead then.

• Have the Notification Area icon for the specific program set to Show icon and notifications (step 5 at link).

OR

• Have the Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar (step 4 at link) box check to show all available icons in system tray.

I found this topics by myself and used the reg key.
After customizing the task-bar icons option,all is working correct now.

Well,
the problem is still there.
There are a few programs,showing the icon in the system tray,and than they just disappear..

For now, you can reset the notification area icons to see if that may help.

However, we need to know what programs these icons are for, and if you checked their settings to make sure the icon is set to be turned on and/or not set to hide.

Active desktop calendar

Is Winpatrol still disappearing on you after setting it as from the posts above?

Sorry, but could you also post a screenshot of your system tray area on the taskbar when these icons are displayed and when hidden/disappeared? Maybe it may help ID what be happening.

Yes,it is,and so are the other programs as mentioned above.

I can give it a try,
but the only thing you can notify is that one moment they are there,and the other moment they are gone...

Why do you want these programs all to be running with Win7? They are freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and Startup Time and can spy on you. Each one is a thorn in the side of the OS and none are really needed to improve performance, quite the opposite.

I only allow AV and gadgets/stickynotes to start with Win7 and enjoy 20 second startup and instantaneous performance at all times. Yet I frequently come across users with 10-30 startup items checked in msconfig including a dozen or more for useless factory utilities which have much better versions built into Win7. This is self-defeating.

Security-wise, Win7 run best with a free lightweight AV like MS Security Essentialls or Avast 5 with the Win7 firewall. There are complications with almost every paid AV and firewall that simply don't need to be risked.
