Hi...2nd attempt to get on your radar with my problem on my own computer. It is shutting down at odd times and always unexpected. When it shuts down after I go to bed, the next a.m. it can take 5mins or longer to actually become functional again. I'm sending my SystemInfo to you (zipped) for a 2nd time. 1st time was about a week ago but there is no record of my post...must've done something wrong.
Your attention will really be appreciated!

Thanks Roy for the reply. I can see that part of my degree of difficulty in getting this to 7Forums was that I was not using IE...but Google Chrome. Anyway, hopefully this info I just gathered will reach you and you can get to the bottom of why my cpu is just 'snapping off'.

Hi Doc,

Before the BSOD experts get to you
I have a few comments

You dont need DriverMax, programs like this cause more problems than they fix.
please uninstall it

You have a number of services that seem to be incorrectly set
Please visit the BlackViper site and reset to his recommendations.

You should be able to reach this site on any browser

Are you dual booting
BCD keeps failing

Roy

Unexpected Shutdowns

Hi Roy,

I'm embarrassed because I would've sworn I uninstalled DriverMax over 2wks ago. Used RevoUninstaller and clicked all boxes. For safety, I did it again just moments ago when I discovered it was still there.

No, I don't dual boot...single partition.

Now and important, I've gone to the site you've directed me to and I'm really confused. Are you suggesting that I uninstall/reinstall Win7? Surely not. If not, now that I'm on the Black Viper Site, what a-b-c steps should I be taking? His site is huge and I really don't know where to begin. Can he be reached with the same SysInfo and gave to you so we can get to the bottom of this problem?

Unexpected Shutdowns

Roy...I went back (after my panic attack!) and more carefully looked at the 8-steps to cleaning up my system. I have done all but the Driver Updating. This part is going to take me some time so unless you've got some specific suggestions for when I'm on BlackCobra's site...i.e., other specific tasks/tests to run, I'm going to start on the driver updating tomorrow. I'll get back to you when I'm done.

I'm making the assumption that in doing the respective clean-up chores that afterwards, you'll want to again take a snapshot of my SystemSpecs (fresh). Is that correct?

Thanks for your reply, Roy! :)

Hi Doc,,

BlackVipers site is a guide, showing Services and their optimal setting, for each version - Home prem for you
( manual/automatic/automatic-delayed or dissabled )
A lot of yours didnt seem correct.
Print them out then work your way thru.

I made the comment are you dual booting because i see EasyBCD on your system
You also use macrium BUT you have copied your backup to a drive on the same HDD, its ALLWAYS recommended to put this on a seperate EXTERNAL drive

Once your ready repost the BSOD results again

Unexpected Shutdowns

Hello again Roy. Thanks for the explanationl...I truly need all I can get.

F.Y.I., I just moments ago finished reviewing/inspecting/updating every driver in Driver Update...one by one. A few indicated they were not to be found and were unnecessary. Three others actually updated: a) AMD Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller; b) Realtekk PCIe GBE Family Controller; and c) USB Mass Storage Device Genesys Logic USB22.0 Card Reader.

I also completed all of the steps recommended by Black Cobra.

I'm puzzled, Roy...I have a dedicated 1gbyte external hard drive for Macrium. Other than being usb connected to this computer, I was not aware that my backups were being transferred to my HDD.

If so I've got a lot of un-doing to take place...and Macrium is not one of my strong suits.

Hello Roy,

I don't know if you got to read my last post...plus I wanted to give you some good news! :geek:

It's been 3 days since I followed the BlackViper's cleanup list...no additional shutdowns!!!

If you want to do any further testing just let me know what else is needed from me. I'll do my best to get it to you.

Waiting for a reply.

It appears that I spoke too soon, Roy. Sometime during the night my system again was shut down. My wife runs the same system and she is having no problem. So this matter still needs further attention. Can you give this a 'nudge'? It's been going on now for several weeks.

Got a 7 Forums heads-up from Axe this a.m. Thought it might be an answer but from all I can see it was one of 2 possibilities: 1) get me to do the System Info steps again (which I've done); or 2) to get me to sign up with a very annoying ad. I take my system security very serious (Emsisoft) and there is no way that my system could have had all the 'discovered' problems lurking inside...all I had to do was pay the $39+/- to let them go to work on my system. What B.S.!!! and I really resent this hawking of software method. Especially since I've followed every step that Seven Forums has suggested to me to resolve my very real and on-going problem.

Now having said the above, in order to keep me as a Member, you can put somebody on this that really will take an interest in personally looking into and solving this annoying (and possibly damaging) event; or two, just be kind of enough to tell me you are no longer interested in hearing from me...and I'll leave. I hope it is not that because I've found a lot of sincere effort and information on this site.

I would ask you to refrain from posting in such an attitude, if you post like that to me then it will be a very annoying troubleshooting process and eventually I might refrain from helping you.

O.K...I can apologize for being slightly hot under the collar...and for sure, I meant no personal offense, so please don't take it so. :o

I've had this recurring issue and anyone that examines the thread of these posts can readily see that the problem persists and to date has not been resolved. I don't think I've asked anything more than what I've gotten fairly quickly over the past almost 2 years...pretty rapid and good service. Never once have I been solicited by an ad during any problem I was dealing with. I hope you can see my frustration.

Please tell me AxeO, just what is it that you now need from me? If I don't understand (which is not unlikely since I'm 79 years old and did not grow up with these computers), I'll let you know. If you want more tests or detailed info, please just give me the a-b-c's (not taking anything for granted in my understanding) and I'll do my best to cooperate.

Again, I'm just trying to get my problem resolved. I'm sure you've got a stack of these issues and I'm understanding of that kind of reply. Look forward to hearing you're on this. Thanks!

Good afternoon AxeO...

I ran several recommended tests this a.m...problem is I'm not you, and I can't easily decipher the codes. However it appeared to me from the AppCrashView program that the failures are fairly consistent. I thought these might be helpful.

Good afternoon (evening for me),

I assume you wanted to save the crash reports and upload them? The zip contains the app that reads the crash reports.

I noticed hundreds of file system structure corruption in the event log from a few months ago. I also see
Code:
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: X64_0xF4_wininit.exe_[color=red]BUGCHECK_CRITICAL_PROCESS_TERMINATED_BY_WerFault[/color].exe_5ac2060
which implies that the Windows Error Reporting file caused the crash, this of course doesn't make sense sinse WerFault shouldn't be able to touch a critical file in such a manner.

Before I suggest something, I would like to know what tests you ran and what the results of those tests are.

I can tell you that I used NirSoft Blue Screen View v1.55 (WinCrashReport; and NirSoft AppCrashView (.exe).

AxeO I know enough to run these on my system...and I can see that 7-Zip has them snagged...but I do not know or understand how to get them from me to you. Do you have your own favorite program(s) that will produce these minidumps along with directions to me as to what to do to get them to you? I able able to take snippets and send those but the BSOD report runs pretty wide and it would take a number of shots.

I am not interested in dumps from the userprofile directory, they require files that I don't have access to for debugging since they are private.

Unexpected Shutdowns

AxeO...thank you again for the reply. The best answer I can give to you is that I really don't know what I'm doing or what tests I've run. You are working with a real knumbsckull when it comes to even reading what I bent over backwards to send to you. I thought the results of those two programs might help you understand what continues to repeat itself with this computer. The top 4-5 entries (the most current ones) in App Crash View seemed to verify my problem. I sincerely wish I knew more about this stuff so at least I could be a good 'helper' to you...but I don't. If you can tell me other things to do, other tests to run (and how to get the results to you), I'll do it.

So where do I go from here? Another idea...my Forza backup has also started to act funny...we're having lots of weather problems and riots on weekend here (Honduras) and so the electric grid is questionable right now and the Forza is not doing its' job in gently shutting down my system. it is slamming it down like I didn't have an electrical backup. So maybe that plays a part in what's been going on. My wife's system has its' own Forza backup and it survives it all just fine. Power outages are only 5-10 minutes at the most and her Forza keeps her system up.

So on Monday I'll be going to the 'big' city here and I'll be taking my Forza in for cleaning/repair. Afterward, we'll see if played a part in these shutdowns...or that it even was the culprit. That's the best help I can be right now, AxeO.

From my experience, app crashes are usually irrelevant unless there's a hardware issue like bad RAM or drive failure.
The top cause of BSODs is drivers and drivers are usually not involved in app crashes.

I would have appreciated it if you would've added your Forza backup system to your initial post.
With shutdowns / restarts, the first thing I learned to check is if the power cycles properly through the system, a backup system that should hold your system up for x more minutes is important to know. Not knowing about it and having troubleshooted everything else is quite annoying for a helper since he would just give up and render you clueless.

Question, besides mouse and keyboard, is there anything else connected to your pc?
