System unexpectedly rebooted during installation...

I am installing Windows 7. I deleted all partitions during the install setup and created a new one for Windows to install on (plus the 100MB partition it created itself). The installation seems to go fine until the "completing installation" phase. The computer reboots and the Windows 7 desktop appears but an error window pops up that says "The system unexpectedly rebooted during the installation. The installation can not be completed." It also tells me to restart the installation (which I've done several times with the same result each time).

I know that the system meets (actually exceeds) the minimum requirements. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what could be causing this problem?

Try rebooting in safe mode. If sucessful it might be your video driver.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried that, but the error message still comes up after it reaches the desktop screen.

I have also listed my system specs in my profile. Sorry that I forgot to list that information.

not video driver. Bios setting, or upgrade needed?

That sounds like a possibility. I haven't upgraded the BIOS for quite a while. I'll give that a try. Thanks for your input.

same issue here

My installation hangs at the exact same spot.
It reboots, and I think that everything is good, then I get the same "The system unexpectedly rebooted during the installation. The installation can not be completed." error. I've reinstalled about 3 times in a row and had the same issue. I've read that removing and reinserting the RAM chips and motherboard battery might help. Will probably have to try that this evening.

Did a BIOS upgrade work for you shawn1969?

Try leaving it at 2GB of ram during the installation, then put it ack in of it works.

Also get your motherboard, bios, graphics driver etc and load them before you begin the installation by using the advanced option to install.

Make sure your hard drive is set a NTFS/Active and Primary with Partiton Wizard.
Get the boot disc,its easiest.
Use resolution 1 (enable num lock and press 1)
And ok to the other warnings.
Re format as Primary and NTFS -Click apply
Right click the hard drive- Set as active-Apply
Boot up form the Win7 disc a install after loading the drivers.

Let us know how you get on.

Minotar, thanks for the advice, however I wasn't able to do a clean install.
I updated the BIOS and all of the drivers, and couldn't get Win7 to successfully clean install.
I was able to load Win XP Pro x64, but I couldn't do an upgrade to Vista (only allowed clean install), but that would give me the same problem as mentioned by shawn1969.

End story, I left WinXPPro in. It's not my main computer, so no worries.
