Solved SYSTEM User, can you log in as that user?

Hi, I was trying to access folders in windows 7 but i was reading there not real folders, why it's beyond me! But anyways along the way I can access explorer.exe as the system account i won't say how incase ye don't allow stuff like that. But anyways i just want to know can you make that an account, like unhiding the Administrator?

Sorry, but no you cannot use the "SYSTEM" account as an user account to log on to.


The folders that are not real folders with shortcut arrows on them are called junction points or symbolic links.

You do not want to mess with junction points.

They are there for backwards compatibility for older programs that still reference those folders. The junction point (fake folder) redirects them to the actual folder.

For example:

The C:\Documents and Settings folder from say XP doesn’t exist anymore in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.


The "C:\Documents and Settings" junction point for older XP programs is actually redirected to the C:\Users[\B] and C:\ProgramData folders now.

Just to add to what Shawn said, the SYSTEM account is a special reserved account that you should never log in as, unless you really know what you're doing. This is different from the hidden Administrator account. The only reason I could see accessing it is to combat a faulty session that you don't want to abort with a power shut down. Otherwise, it shouldn't be touched, as you could screw something up and find yourself spending a lot of time restoring a back up.

Thanks a lot yes it did help. I was wondering why i could access them when you could in XP. Also i don't use the system account i was just trying it to see if that would let me in the folders but thanks
