Hello all!

I've screwed up, I don't know how it happened but I was moving around some stuff and something happened with the open windows (got stucked to the cursor) and when I got it to stop (I've got a new mouse with some small buttons on the side, and I've not managed to get used to them .. however I will disable those)

Well the problem is that when I got to unhook that window from my cursor my 300Gb + mp3 folder was gone .. man it almost gave me a heartattack, cause I've been working on that thing for years basically ...

I found it, it's somehow inside the "D:\system volume information" folder, and if I dragg it out to the root of the D drive it dissapears from the sys vol dir, but doesn't show up in the root at the D drive .. ?? and then if I go out from the sys vol dir and go back in again (basically refresh) then there it is again ..

summary: ... cannot move my mp3 folder back to the D:\ folder since it accidently got moved to d:\system volume information ..

please help .. I'm nervous like a cat on a hot tin roof

Thanks

Go to Services and make Task scheduler and Volume Shadow Copy service are running - before trying Shadow Explorer

If the boxes are empty - you have no shadow copies.

Are you able to copy and paste the mp3 folder - instead of trying to move it.

Good luck with it.

Might be a good idea to keep a backup copy of anything really important on an external device in future - you never know when you may need it.

If that does not work, you still have shadow copy. I am sure that you will be able to restore the files.

Update - Solved

Thank you guys for helping me with this, it did work to copy the folder so now
I hope to just delete that folder that are stored inside (the system volume folder)

But before that I will do a safe copy to an external device like I do every now and then, but this time when it happened yesterday I suddenly realized it was 5-6 weeks ago since I last made a safety copy, and since I work on it on a daily basis at least 1 h a day it was a lot of work too loose.

Thank you rich46 and
Thank you SIW2

for helping me solving that problem.
:D

you all have a good one

well lets change status to almost solved

Hello again, the filecopy is completed, the backup is completed, but now not so very surprisingly I cannot delete the folder from system volume information folder ..

I tried to use the "cleanup" drive thingy but didn't do it, tried take ownership and then delete .. didn't do it either .. it's over 300gb so I need the space, otherwise I would just have left it there ..but thats too much space to waste .

I am very surprised that it is possible to copy stuff into that folder and then not get rid of it ??

any ideas anyone?

Johnhoh !

Thanks for helping me.

I'm afraid I don't understand how to use it, I checked the "icacls help" and the link you provided .. but I cannot figure out how to apply it to my problem.

in my D:\system volume information
folder I've managed to copy a folder named "ken1_jukebox" and that's the one I want to get rid off but no luck so far.
full path : D:\System Volume Information\ken1_jukebox

I do not understand why it is so hard to get rid of ? and why is it possible to
copy stuff (by mistake) into the folder when I cannot delete them?

:eek::confused:

at times I've found when a folder wouldn't delete I've...

1/ deleted the files within it - they'd delete maybe because they were smaller?
2/ renamed the folder, rebooted computer and then the folder would delete without problems

Believe above happened with an antivirus program I was trying to remove after partial uninstall

history :)

want to thank everybody for taking an interest in my problem ...
would have been more elegant to really solve it ..but I took a shortcut

Fast way to fix, Download Ubuntu 11.10 or later (earlier will work also). Make a live CD by burning the .iso file.
Then boot from the CD chose the option to Try Ubuntu. Let it finish booting. Press the Home icon on the toolbar on the left.
Now your in ubuntu's file explorer. Navigate to the drive (will have the same names as they did in windows) you'll be able to see and copy/move/delete files from the system volume folder.

Enjoy.:D
